After 6 L322s and 2 5.0 SC catastrophic failures (yes chains were done on both vehicles) Im done with the 5.0s. Not here to debate which is better just my experience. View attachment 310207
Have a 2019 TD6 inbound and curious what the highest mileage folks have seen in them.
We had 45K on our 2017 RRS Td6 when we returned it off lease, liked it so much we bought a 2021 version. Except for the intermittent "low quality def detected, no restarts in 250 miles" issue (which appears to be fixed), we love it. 30 MPG at about 75 mph, Portland - Seattle.

Hideout, what was done to your vehicle to fix the no restarts message?

Happened in October, November and December 2021 on our Dec 2020-delivered RRS. At 10K, 11K and 12K miles. I was seriously considering lemon law action. They just did a regen the first time, replaced the def spray nozzle the second time, and finally replaced the SCR (whatever that is) the third time. The had opened some report with Land Rover in England (over the Christmas holidays…) to figure out what was going on. Now 18 months later, 33K miles, no issues. I do now have the DEF refilled at the dealer, just in case….

Purchased a 2017 Td6 with 35K miles about a month ago. All records. Love everything about the engine except potential rod issue. It has every option that I personally would have ordered had I bought it new- including color combo. Otherwise, would have purchased a 2021 Supercharged v8.

As someone else mentioned, the L405 is NOT an L322. My 08 L322 with 164k mi is absolutely bullet proof. Love it and afraid I'll regret selling but cannot keep one more vehicle. Have way too many (for my taste) already.

Winner, winner! Chicken Dinner!

Definitely the most miles I read about on the engine.

Personally, I expect mine to go that far. Knowing there's an oiling issue with the engine makes a big difference. I just wait a bit for everything to start flowing before I start flowing. My rolled 112k this week and is as quite as a mouse (or maybe not a mouse - it is diesel).
I have a 2016 TD6 Black Top , just hit 110000 miles in the shop now getting the timing belt and high pressure fuel pump belt replaced So this is my first diesel engine and from what I’ve heard it’s best to replace those belts on time or you could ruin your engine if that timing belt goes .

If the front belt goes at speed you can pretty much kiss the engine goodbye. If the rear belt goes the engine will just shut off.

Not a Land Rover, but we had a car come in with a snapped timing belt. Over 190,000 miles and it was the original belt. Nearly double the recommended change interval. They got lucky it broke after startup and the engine was saved. Definitely don’t recommend finding out what the full service life of an LR timing belt is, but this car had the same brand belt LR uses.

What do they quote for belt service?

Had this too, recently at ~60K miles. They first tried draining/refilling then software update, then replaced DEF tank. it was at the dealer for weeks. would have cost about ~5K I believe but we have extended warranty. This the second time we've had to use it. First time, the driver's side soft close door was not being properly detected as closed, so the doors would not lock. The whole door mechanism was swapped out. Between the two, we are way above water on the warranty, but it runs out in 6 months and strongly on the fence about what to do with the car afterwards.

Yep, every time I go into a JLR dealer and tell them about it, they agree and say “it’s a known problem”. Which, since the diesel is no longer sold in the US, JLR appears to be doing nothing about it.

Hilarious…paying $4300 but concerned about a $70 filter? Buy from Atlantic British next time and find an independent…dealership Is massively overcharging!

They snuck that In On me! I just dropped off the truck for the service and that’s what was included. By the way there no Indy shop in my area that would touch the timing belt. So I had to go to the dealership!

Does anyone know for sure if a 2018+ TD6 has this chain issue?
If you know anything about the TDV6/SDV6/TD6 from reading the various posts in this thread, then you know it doesn’t have timing chains. It has two timing belts, one main belt on the front for the crank/cam timing and a second on the rear for the fuel pump.

So no, the 2018+ TD6 doesn’t have the chain issue that’s in the 5.0/5.0SC V8’s since it doesn’t use timing chains.
