Parcel Tray Support - What am I missing?

Trying to figure out how the hanging carpet attaches to the parcel tray support, and well, it's not obvious. And it doesn't look like I'm missing any parts.

Yes, my support is in bad shape, cracked, worn, and missing a peg (already ordered). But I don't see any evidence of a clamping bracket, pins, glue or staples that would have attached the carpet to the support panel. How is is supposed to be attached before I invent something?

That would make sense. I've been meaning to make a metal bar... Staples never work for long.

No I don’t know the number
But it is one inch wide and playable

And carpet is held on with rivits
I’m sure you could come up with something
I tried to take some pics

I don't think those rivets are original. And maybe that strip isn't either. My support piece does not have any holes from rivets. None. The only hole is from the peg the parcel tray latches to.
