Help needed with CarPlay installation

Purchased Carplay unit for 2011 L322 with no instructions and the AliExpress vendor ghosted - these units seem all seem the same, like this one.

There are some great related threads but they don't have installation details. I have done basic carplay install in my other car without CAN bus integration and little guidance will be appreciated:

1) "SIM card and AV harness" has the following composite ends: Audio OUT L and R, AUX IN L and R, Video OUT, CVBS-IN-1. Usually, composite output is used to send unamplified signal to factory amplifier. Unfortunately, there are only two audio out cables (L and R) instead of 4 that I have seen before (F and R included). Is this expected? And are those two audio cables going into the Head Unit replacement ( #3 question below)?
1a) Same AV harness has a blue wire (without composite head) - not sure what it is
2) There are loose wires from the main harness (right next to the CAN BUS DECODER in the first picture) - these are usually for preamp outputs (that will not be used) but there are three additional wires: "back", "key 1" and orange with white stripe that I don't understand the purpose for.
3) The blue box (Head Unit Replacement) has two composite inputs. According to pictures that one of the vendors sent (further below), it connects to two outputs from the "SIM card and AV harness". What are these for?

Glad it helped. I did te exact same thing as you and was very frustrated until I sorted it out. Funny you mention call quality. Mine is having issues where my mic does not pick up my voice well. Sounds like phone is in my pocket or very subdued and muffled on the other persons end. I will have to dig into that someday.

Based on my brief searching around, the issue, at least in part, seems to be related to the car's built-in microphone and the head-unit microphone. Some folks have mentioned disconnecting Bluetooth (that way, with wired car-play connection, only the head unit microphone is working). Others have recommended disabling the head unit microphone. I did the former but made no difference. I haven't been able to disable the head unit microphone yet.

Figured out the issue: the CD changer, although not used, was supposed to closed off (fiberoptic end) and, once I connected it, sounds started working. Otherwise, all connections shown above work right. The installation looks great and sound is terrific.

Except: Still cannot get the rear-view camera working...

Hey there I just joined to try and help you out. I just finished up my install of an android replacement on my 11RRSC. in order to wire up the reverse camera you will need to discard the blue farka connector it does not carry the rear camera signal.
looking at the instructions on the bottom of the tutorial the pictures, you will need to follow the step at the bottom. Take the rca to farka plug (or the rca pigtail of your choice if you do not want to cut up that connector you won’t be needing it for this install). Cut it and strip wire (the ground wire is bare).
you will then splice or cut the 6 pin connector from the stock head unit. Refer to the picture to get the orientation needed. There are two sets of white and black wires you’ll need the ones in the center of the connector. Connect the yellow wire (power signal) from the striped rca pigtail to the white wire. Connect the ground(bare) (negative signal) to the black wire.

I found when I tried to use t taps on the wires I was getting an unreliable connection causing me a lot of extra time and frustration. My recommendation is that you avoid t tap method.I ended up cutting the wires a bit away the connector (so I could reconnect if it I ever needed to) and used some weather sealed butt connectors I had.
Hope this helps if you have questions I’ll try to answer them for you.

edit. I was able to reach all of this after the install by removing the dash center vent. So I didn’t have to pull the whole car apart again.

Hello again. Finished the installation - everything works but sound and rearview camera. Everything is connected as far as I can, microphone works, steering wheel columns work, etc. The only thing not connected is Radio antenna - couldn't find it per pictures below.

There is absolutely no sound, even when the microphone works. I tried turning the amplifier on (in the head unit settings) and off but it made no difference.
The unit detects when car is in reverse and turns the screen dark with guidelines but no actual image visible.

Did i miss something in the connections? again, I didn't' connect antenna (#8 in the pictures)

here are more details:

first picture shows details about the original set-up
Second picture shows how the original media interface (under the passenger dash) connections and how they were reconnected
third picture has connections at the back of the new unit.
the forth picture is a collage from a vendor -showing how everything connects. The numbers from previous pictures reference numbering schema on this collage.

Do they give you a MOST injector to interface with your existing amplifier?

The information I ran into when I was researching such a replacement was that the 2010-2012 L322 use the “high-speed CANBUS” which is not compatible with the MOST injector systems on the market.

I believe these years require a “brand new system” built in parallel to the existing fiber network.

Not 100% sure (I had to look up the MUST definition) but few people have installed on 2010-2012 with success based on this thread: Head Unit Upgrade 10.25" Android

I hope mine is also compatible as long as I can figure out how to work it.
