Great tip! I use good ol' isopropyl alcohol for cleaning all kinds of things. Never had it damage a surface yet, and leaves it truly oil-free and clean. Great for paint prep too.

Question for you though, with your hood/bonnet message coming on, has your alarm been cutting on as a result?

 

Good question. I parked my car I. The garage so I would t have to lock it but yes the alarm would have gone off if I had left the sensor broken

 

Cleaned mine with contact cleaner and about a month later it started failing again. Replaced it with new one. Pretty inexpensive IIRC.

 

Totally agree Arby's but if you take a REAL close look at the sensor it is a round stainless steel spring that when compressed it triggers for lack of a better word, a "button" which when pressed it tells the car that the hood is closed. It's such a simple device and Arby, I have a feeling you may not have cleaned the button the spring presses, well enough. I hope you kept it as a back up.
