2008 range rover sport, Transmission Prob, Wont gear into Drive.
Hello everyone,
I have an 2008 range rover sport, has relatively low KM's, around 100k. Little less then a couple months ago, one day something suddenly changed when i was driving my rover, normaly everything shifts smoothly from Park into drive, but this time overnight there felt like there was some odd resistance in how it moved through reverse and into drive, and i noticed that when i got to drive, it didnt feel like it sat properly in Drive. It kinda felt like things were misaligned slightly and i have to kinda pull it into drive a few times to get it to stay.
As the time went on, sometimes i would start the car and put it into drive and while i would feel the odd resistance it would go into drive and have no problems, but sometimes it would not want to go into drive, like i would push it into drive and the D would light up and it would go into drive, but as soon as i let my hand off the shifter it would slide out (upwards) towards neutral but not all the way. And so it would end up between neutral and Drive, and as time would go on the only way i could drive it was to hold the shifter on the drive while i was driving.
I really should have taken it into to get it fixed right away, but at first it didnt seem like it was getting worse, and secondly the closest ranger dealer is a little over 2 hours away, plus iv been kinda worried about how much something like this (transmission, big $) could cost me. Well it did get worse and i was lucky to be able to get it into drive one last time and get it from the grocery store but now i cant get it into drive again, when i pull the shifter down the Drive wont light up or work. Reverse works great, and when it was in drive it drove just fine.
I'm going to get it towed into a local transmission shop sometime this week depending on how busy they are, but i wanted to get some opinions from people on what they think this could be.... Iv been searching the forums and i havnt found anyone with quite the same problem, some kinda close... in another thread someone mentioned their problem could be the front clutch or something..? I'm really hoping its something that can be fixed without having to get a new transmission or rebuild it. Can't really afford that now, but the car is worth enough that it would eventualy have to be done if that was the case.
Any ideas welcome.
