Hi Everyone
I have tried to remove the plastic thermostat housing on my p38, lying on my back underneath the motor, managed to get the springy hose clips loose with a pair of pliers
but im struggling to get the hoses off the unit, i just cant get enough purchase on the **** thing to get the hose/s to come off the old unit, any tips/advise would be appreciated as i continue to try and solve my intermittent overheating dilema. thanks Andy

You should seriously consider replacing the hoses, now that you see what a job it is, why do it over in a few months when the old hoses burst? By replacing the hoses, you can just cut the old ones out. And - sometimes the heating problem is aggravated by "soft" hoses that collapse when heated anyway, best to put new ones in.

I urge you to reconsider, but if you have access to compressed air, you can barely twist a blow gun around and blast air in between the hose and the bit of pipe on the thermostat. All you need is to put a bit of a bubble in one spot and it will release. The blow gun is the attachment with the red handle in the pic. Pry the rubber up just enough to jam the blow gun in there.

I have not been in there yet but I think I would go thru the top-shroud off (if a bosch) tensioner release and belt off. good luck
