Permanently disabling immobiliser

Hi,

Just bought a Range Rover P38 1996 2.5 Diesel. And I must admit it drives fantastic, when it does drive!
I, like many others, now face some problems with the immobilizer.

I have read a lot of threads on similar problems, and decided to go for a permanent disabling of the immobilizer. In my search I found a very interesting post from 2011 about changing the country spec. with Autologic to “Gulf” this should disable both the alarm and immobilizer.

Can anyone please confirm that this is indeed a valid solution?

If you diagnostic has access to the BECM settings, you can simply disable the alarm and immobilizer there. That way you are sure not to get any side-effects, as can be the case with the market settings.

I ' disabled' the alarm and immobilizer on the BECM. This eliminated the alarm confirmation when I remotely lock it, and I need to listen for the locks to engage. Not sure if the immobilizer is truly stopped. Can anyone confirm this? Is there a way to test the immobilizer function maybe with the windows down on case there are issues? I have the TekPro 3000 that can program the BECM.

Many thanks for the replays. Great news.

I can only start the car using the EKA code. Anything has been tried to fix it, except a new BeCM, so it would be fantastic if I can just disable the immobilizer. I have no need for it anyway.

I can attest to "if the microswitch fails then you will have an issue"
I have been using the spare key as when I bought the P38 1995 at Christmas the remote key was already knackered (missing battery, battery cover and buttons) so not sure I'll be able to get it started again. Last night the drivers door unlocked but that was it - no other doors unlocked and the "engine immoblised - press remote" message came up.

Going back today to where we left it to search for the EKA code in the manual and try the key turning magic that I have seen on this site (thanks for that).

Wonder if there are any locals (Lower or Upper Hutt in Wellington) that have a P38 with a working remote that might could 'borrow' their battery and cover from to put in my remote key to see if I can unlock the immobilizer ?

Any members have any other ideas or solved this problem themselves?
