I wouldn't count on it. Re-working the oil sump, pumps and filtration on this engine was most of the work done to it by LR. That and losing some bhp! :wink: :wink:

Anyway why do you ask, surely an LR oil filter can't be that hard to come by or significantly cheaper???

Dealer cost on an oil filter...

Over $25.00 or essentially a $9.00 item Mann/Hengst/Mahln.

Not trying to be cheap, but why pay more when you really
don't have to. The factory ail filter is an arm an a leg. This
one you probably have to get from the dealer.

I believe other forum members have changed their filters with
less costly BMW part equivalents.

I don't believe the sump changes affect the oil filter element.

 

I changed the oil in my 04 last Thursday, DIY. The original filter in the canister was a BMW part 11427510716 made by Hengst part E202H01. I replaced with a Landrover part, but next time I can look for less expensive ones, unless K&N comes up with an aftermarket replacement.

Most excellent. Hengst E202H01 D34 Oil Filter.

That being said, we can use the $9.00 Purolator filters
equivalent from say Pep Boys for the X5 (4.4L) . Lots
of BMW owners who run M62 have said that this is
just a repacked Hengst filter, o-ring and drain plug
washer (no effort to hide this).

 

Good News, the LR part was $25. I checked the Purolator Oil site and searched for BMW, Hengst and LR oil filter, all came back with the same part L35280
