Dragging wheels-- need feedback

It might be my imagination but in slow, tight turns it seems like some of the wheels on my '95 RRC are "dragging." In loose gravel I can hear and feel them slipping/correcting. As a complete novice, I suspect there's something wrong with the differential, but don't have any real idea. Is this possible? IS it expensive to fix?

THANKS!!!

Yes as Stuart said it sounds like the viscous unit in the transfer case (centre differential) is seizing. Replacements are available from Ashcroft Transmissions in the UK. No, it won't be cheap :(

Disconnecting the front propshaft is a temporary fix, making your RR RWD and taking the strain off the driveline.

Better yet - buy a used LT230 Transfer case with all the necessary side-goodies for about $400 from Paul Grant and give yerself the gift of Center Diff Lock capabilities...

There's nothing you could have done, they just seize up over time. It's a sealed unit within the transfer box, so unaffected by fluid changes etc.

I believe that you need to be careful of accelerated wear on the rear diff whilst driving with the front propshaft removed. The diffs are designed to operate in the 4 wheel drive environment, so are really set up to handle half the torque from the engine each. If you're running in rear wheel drive, all that torque goes through the rear diff and axle. I reckon it'll be ok as long as you don't do it for too long, and don't do racing-starts away from every junction!

I sold a complete, working perfectly, LT230 transfer box on ebay for £20 about 3 weeks ago.

I think you have to change the rivetted in panel around the gearlever, and the gearlever surround trim if you swap the box, but could be wrong. Is this still possible with a soft dash?
