Hello, I am replacing the entire exhaust on my Rover and have a question when it comes to cat removal. Do you have to remove the cross member that the tranny sits on? If so is there any pre-cautions to take? I have been looking at it for a while now and I do not see any other way to get the cats out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Does anybody have any comments on this? I have looked on the main site and around the forum but have not found any tips/techniques to the removal/installation of new catalytic converters. The rear exhaust and mid pipe were a piece of cake to replace. Please help!!!!
Thanks

Yes you have to remove the cross-member. It is advisable to support the tranny with a jack. Everything else is straight forward. You should really download the Rave CD if you don't already have it.

for both cost and ease of instalation just cut out the old ones and weld in new aftermarkets in their place. Much cheaper.

Unless you allready have sourced the y pipe assembly with cats for a fair price.

Thanks for the response. I am in the process of downloading the RAVE CD. I all ready purchased the catalytic converters but had I known that you had to remove that cross member I would have just cut out the bad one. I just want to make sure my transmission won't end up laying next to or on top of me.

Get rid of the cats totally and change to LPG - much better option.

Have a read of my posts in the following thread re exhausts:

It would be nice to switch to lpg, but here in the State's that isn't really an option. I don't know of one RR that's done it. Could always import the parts and fill at the bar-b-que place I guess, with the other "Propane and Propane Accessories" (shameless Texas plug). :)
