My Air Con works very well except for a noise from the compressor when the engine is under load. The garage tells me it is the compressor clutch at fault and want over a £1000 for the repair. I thought I might have a go at doing it myself. Although I am fairly competent at mechanics I have never done one of these before. I would appreciate any help you could give me as well as pointing out any pitfalls.
ie. After fitting a new compressor can the vehicle be driven to a garage for the unit to be regassed. OR, is it possible to change only the clutch part of the unit. The car is a 2003 TD6 l322.

Thanks in advance.

I would see a independant AC workshop as all AC items are very simillar with all car manufacturers.
Anyway, I purchase all parts directly from BMW at min half price as with LR.
I knew I needed some money to purchase a RR but I didn't know I should be extremely ritch to keep on driving one and be patient whilst they are in repair.
