hello all,i want to replace my 255/65/R16 tires,i am confused to get an A/T or H/T as my car doesn't do off road!are the H/T good for a heavy car like a p38,i am worried about strengh coz A/T have stronger shoulder, but H/T have better performance and safety on dry and wet.
onother q please: puting a tire with a higher sidewall to fill the arches will affect ABS or Speedometer in anyway?instead of the mentioned tire above.i was thinking of 255/70/R16.or even the 235/70/R16 but this one is for 7 inches rim and i have the 8 inches rim,can they be fitted to the 8 inches rim that i have got?
thank you gents

Yes, it will. It will think you are going slower with the bigger tire. There is a fix for this, but the difference is negligible enough that it won't be a problem.

it wont be a prob unless there is a speed limit and an officer in the car waiting for some fun and calculating ur exact speed with a mile more or less !!! to give u a ticket

I am running 255/70/16 on my machine and have not really noticed any change in acceleration - but I don't have a heavy foot anyway. There must be a slight drop in performance but nothing I could detect.
The speed limit on the open road over here is 100kph but running the slightly taller tyres means that my speedo is out about 7kph - 93kph on the speedo is actually 100kph on the road.

You mention going down to a 235/70/16 - why? It will mean you speedo will be out the other way and you engine will be revving faster.

If you don't go off-road then stick to a more street oriented tyre. Get a tyre with a suitable load rating - it will be on the tyre sidewall - and feel comfortable with your choice of brand. I have found my p38 to be quite capable off-road with street tyres if you do ever feel the urge . . .

I've just had General Grabber AT2's fitted in 265x70x16 size, they fill the arches out nicely but had to trim the top inside corner off the front mud flaps, on full lock the tyres would rub on the flaps, a quick trim with a hacksaw and a tap with a hammer and all is well.

The AT2 tyre looks like a MT when new, big chunky tread blocks, but they're quiet on the road and Rangie is a bit softer due to the extra sidewall height, the overall diameter of this tyre is 30.5"

I have noticed on the motorway it's a little slower to pickup in top gear and I've still to check the speedo reading against what my sat nav says.....there's speed cameras everywhere round here.... :naughty:
