A few interior trim questions

Hi Guys, I have a few trim questions. I am trying to locate a few interior pieces that are very expensive new. I do not have a scap yard around here to dig through. I am looking for the carpet finishers in the front passenger and drivers side. Basically plastic step plates in Walnut color (AAT). I am also trying to locate the seat switch covers for both the front seats. Most importantly I need to find the loadspace panel extension that attaches to the upper tailgate and includes the third brake light. I found some on ebay the wrong color and more expensive than brand new through the dealer! All in walnut color hopefully. Also, has anyone taken the piece of trim off the very top inside of the tailgate? It covers the rear wiper motor. I took out 4 screws but it is still firmly attached. I don't want to bust it by yanking the wrong way. Thanks for the insight.

Regards

Hi

all trim pieces you are mentioning have been changed in my car as well. All were cracked and plastic was brittle. I got them from breaker in UK and handcarried them to M'sia. Some were not the right color but these can be easily sprayed over by professional shops. So get to the breakers in a place where the weather is mild. Pieces costed me around 30 pounds for carpet retainers and under seat base plastics bought it together with new dashboard that cost me 100 pounds.

Third brake light piece was changed with new set from the dealer here at around US$ 200.

Had these fitted two years ago and have not had any problems with the old color coming through.

Plastic that is also likely to go are the following:

sun visor mirror flap
middle console panel (panel with clock and all switches)
instrument surround panel (with opening switch for filler lid)
Interior Lights in front as well as in back.
lights for numberplate.
big plastic panel under the steeringwheel.

I am living in tropics and above plastics crumble when touched after 8 to 9 years in the heat here. Most of the cars here have problems with them.

regards

I need to get that tail gate piece off of there as well. I removed the four screws plus the two on the sides and it feels stuck. Anyone know about this? Can I just pull harder? The two screw holes for the tail light broke off - so technically I guess I should get a whole new piece - but I figure I can just drill them out and use a cool looking screw with a nut on the back and no one will even notice.

First - I have to get that piece off though!

OK - so for anyone who needs to get to their dangling brake light in the upper tail gate - here's the way to get those pieces out of there. Remove all four screws on the front and the two on the sides. Now peel the weather stripping from the tailgate. You'll now see there are some tabs holding the two pieces together. Pop the tabs out and the top piece is free and will pull out. The bottom piece will still be relatively secure - as there are some push pins which secure it to the tailgate - like a door panel has.

I was able to get the top piece out of there and then drill out the broken screw ounts and replace them with some bomber screws with locking nuts. Not going anywhere now - that's for sure! Pretty easy fix - and cost a couple of bucks.
