Unfortunately, this is true. Do a search, it has been discussed by me and others extensively. You will also find the bluetooth doesn't work either. Shy of spending $1000 for an equipment upgrade, there is no way to fix the bluetooth.

I added Sirius through an FM modulator. It works well and provides me with an AUX input for my iPod.

My bluetooth works great and I didn't have to spend any money. It did not work with my blackberrys, so I bought a second phone, a motorola PEBL and it works flawlessly.

Interesting. It will not work with my iphone nor my blackberry pearl. Others have similar experiences. Glad it works with your phone!

 

Bluetooth works fine on my 2005. So far, I've used: Sony T610, T-Mobile Dash, Motorola RAZR and iPaq 6310.

 

The bluetooth works with my Blackberry 8830 and my wife's curve. But it won't transfer the phonebook to the car. I think that is only available from the 2006+.
What exactly is involved in upgrading the Sat/Nav system on an 05 to 06, so we can get hard wired Sirius and an Aux port?

2005 was a transition year between BMW and Jaguar. Ford morphed components from both manufactures.

The 03-04 can be easily upgraded (plug and play) by replacing it with components from the 2006 BMX X5 vehicle.

Since the 2005 Rover used the M.O.S.T. system (fiber optic) it is not plug and play to make changes.

Regarding the bluetooth; it will work only if you use the phones on the "approved" list from Land Rover or hack into your phone software to modify the bluetooth feature of your phone to communicate with the vehicle. As new phones come out many of them will not work.

 

I hate to say it but that isn't entirely true: we own an 05.

The main issue with bluetooth is that it comes in different flavours and not all later phones are full backward compatible. You also need to bear in mind the way PDA phones work and that there are a large number of processes going on in them. The early module is designed to deal with a constant data stream. PDA phones don't deliver a constant data stream so the module can't cope and times out.

There are also faulty bluetooth modules and the TSB essentially advises throw over shoulder and replace module.

MOST is gaining acceptance and there are interface modules coming out. It took a while for the BMW to have 3rd party support now MOST is getting it too. I wouldn't bother with any of the LR interfaces and wait a few months and prices will continue to come down for the 3rd party

BUT you probably need to get your Bluetooth module changed or just use a cradle phone like we do: how much effort is it to copy the numbers from your PDA to another phone? Just be prepared for the bizzare fuse changing ritual when the system hangs up!

 

Interestingly enough I've just bought an '05 S/C and tyhe bluetooth wouldn't work at all with any of our phones from a Nokia 2630i (same age as the car)through a Nokia 6300 All I did was to unplug the Bluetooth module which is on top of the "stack" in the LHS of the boot, let it sit for 15 min. and re-connnected. It has worked perfectly since . Hope this helps someone,

PS Remember you are working with delicate connections!

 

I have an 05 RR and a blackberry curve 8310. The bluetooth did not work. I went to the dealer and had them update the vehicle software, and all is worked well since.

 

Had an '05 and all that needs to be done to get Bluetooth working (better) is a trip to the dealer to replace the module + update software. Easy fix.
