Wind noise

Hello, just picked up my new 2025 Range Rover and I notice wind noise at highway speeds 50+ MPH. Sounds like it’s coming from the drivers side window near the little triangle window. Has a sound almost like if you had your window down a crack and air was leaking in. Any others experience this and possible fix?

I am sorry to hear that and very disappointed that JLR hasn’t fixed this yet. I am picking up mine in the next 1-2 weeks. However, I extensively test drove a few 2025 RR and RRS cars specifically testing wind noise and none had it. Dealer told me they have slightly modified the design of the mirror in 2025 models to address the wind noise. So I am shocked and disappointed hearing your story, and nervous that mine may have the same issue. I hope it is something the dealer can fix.

I have a Hybrid Autobiography 2023 model. After 6 months wind noise became really bad from Passenger side, even at low speeds, it was as though the window was open! After a few weeks the same noise started developing on drivers side. Dealership changes both little A windows. The noise on the passenger side disappeared, but noise on driver side remained and was worse. Took the car back, they changed the seals, and said all is OK now. As soon as I drove the car away from garage, I noticed the noise was still there! Took the car back immediately. After 1 week they said all is OK and they have changed the mirror. As soon as I drove the car away from garage, I notice the noise was still there, so took the car back again! I told them to keep the car as long as they want but only give it back when it is all good, I also asked them to raise a ticket with JLR. After two week they said the car is ready, I told them before collecting the car I like to test drive same model for noise comparison, They organized this and all ok in the show room car. Then I took my car, as soon as I left the garage I noticed the noise was still there, so I drove back. They said that they cannot do anything more, they have raised a ticket with JLR, send JLR a recoding of noise level, etc, and I am imagining everything. They said also that I should take the car back to where I have bought! I left angry, when home I asked for all work they have done. After some two weeks of no response I wrote back and said I can request the information under Freedom of Information Act and GDPR. Within two hours I got the below response. I still have the wind noise, and waiting for an appointment to have the work done:-

In reviewing the recent event with my Technician, Workshop Controller, and Service Manager, I would like to apologise for providing you with some inaccurate information. During our conversation in the showroom, I mentioned that a Technical Assistance (TA) had been raised with videos. While this is true, my understanding was that this was specifically for your vehicle. However, this has not been the case; the TA in question was raised for a vehicle in a similar situation. Their response to this matter was that they are unable to provide support due to our hearing being better than what a video will demonstrate. I would like to reiterate my apologies for this oversight, but the situation remains unchanged with their response to the matter.

With regards to a repairs we've done;
1st visit - End of September - We've replaced the door quarter panel glass on both front doors due to the noise being audial when driving
We also identified a door seal split which was contributing to the noise you're experiencing.
2nd visit - Start of November - This was on the same 'job card'. During our road testing we've identified an issue with the mirror housing allowing air to travel into the cabin.         This was confirmed by test driving with tape applied to the outside to divert the air around the mirror. The part was then replaced.

3rd visit - Mid of November - This was on a new job card - During our diagnostics the only noise we experienced was minimal but was coming from areas we've already replaced. We did however carry out a replacement of these windows again.
During our diagnostics we did identify a small noise coming from the trim nearing the mirror housing on the driver's door. This was also replaced. The vehicle was then tested with a 'like for like' with the results being the same.

During the recent vehicle collection, we conducted a road test in a 'like for like' vehicle. During this test, you informed me that you had observed the same noise as in your own vehicle. This led us to conclude that this is a characteristic of the vehicle due to its size and the quietness of the vehicle when on the road from inside the cabin. Regrettably, there is no replacement part available to address this issue, as discussed after the road test.

We have raised an EPQR for your vehicle, which is a quality report to Land Rover regarding the issue you are experiencing. The purpose of this report is to encourage development of a replacement part that will address the issue more effectively and improve the sound you are hearing.

EPQR #3922082
Wind noise from driver’s side. Carry out road test with customer, noise evident from driver’s door quarter glass area. Carry out leak test on glass, leak evident. Replaced new quarter glass in driver’s door, road tested wind noise still evident. Carry out road test with various parts taped up. Requires new mirror to door trim and re assessing. Replace trim and test back-to-back with another like for like vehicle. Both comparable no further action.

As discussed, before you left on the 22nd we cannot keep replacing the same parts under warranty as they have not 'failed'. We also cannot identify any further failed component and the noise you’re experiencing has been experienced on similar vehicles showing it's not a direct issue on your vehicle. I appreciate you've mentioned this was not something that was present when you first got the vehicle, and the issue developed to the point it's at now but at current time and with the parts supplied for this vehicle this issue cannot be resolved to meet your expectations.

Not worth it to have those service monkeys take your car apart over and over again. I have some wind noise, to me it sounds like buffeting wind noise off the mirror, but again, you gotta pick your battles. I had a 2004 BMW 530i in 2004 that I kept obsessing over rattles and noises and the more they tried to fix it, the worse it got. Now I just live with a few small imperfections. It’s unfortunately not a perfect world, even in 100k+ vehicles.

The more you take it in for service, the greasier your seats and steering wheel gets and the more likely your car doors get dinged. They could give two shits about your vehicle.

Thank you for advise, but if a company promotes quality and supposedly sells quality they should stand by it, particularly if I have also paid for it. Otherwise I might as well by a BYD! Anyway Showroom have done everything they can and they are being supportive. However they have not been successful in fixing the problem, so they have raised the issue with Range Rover Technical who are saying this loud noise is normal for this car! Showroom is arguing that No this noise is loud, not present in new cars, demonstration and on passenger side and also are arguing that the entire door assembly must be replaced. While the two side are discussing the point, the car has been in show room and have been given a courtesy car. I wait for the outcome before deciding on the next action.

I think it’s just the way the air catches in the small space between the mirror and the triangle glass. On mine, I can hear it only because I read this forum. And if it’s windy outside, it is louder. With the radio on, I don’t hear it at all. In my opinion, the only way to truly fix it is to redesign the shape of the mirror and mirror arm. Let us know if they do sort you out, would be curious what they can do.

In mine it gets louder and louder starting at 30mph. At 70mph it sounds more like ac going on at full blast and it is loud. The noise dose not exist on passenger side or demonstration cars myself and showroom have tried. They just called me and wish to keep the car longer so they may try new parts.

Interesting case. I wonder what they’re not looking at.
We were just discussing this in a training session just today. Per one of JLRNA’s top Picoscope diagnosis people’s presentation, it’s believed that since the vehicles are so quiet these days, the normally “drowned out” air splitting caused by the mirror housing shapes is more easily heard. “In fact, we hear the same complaints from other [high end / luxury] manufacturers and most have pointed to the mirror housing designs.”
I’m not saying this is the reason for your case, though your service team also recognizes the possibility of the mirrors causing the noise. Looking at what they replaced so far, it’s also possible your noise originates from elsewhere but flows into the cabin through that path of travel.
I’m tempted to say that you should request/suggest this person be put onto the case, but I also know JLR is working through a lot of these types of cases. I’m hopeful a more permanent solution will come soon!

Thank you for the feedback, I think I fully agree with you somehow the passing air is being directed into the car. When all the seals around small window and mirror are tapped up the air is still comes into the car with the associated noise. This was not the case before with tape in these locations the noise was blocked. So something has happened in the interim work and particularly the work done by the 1st showroom, who told me to take the car to where I have bought it from! Hopefully it gets all sorted next week.

So interesting story on my 2025 SE. I had some body work done in a local shop and while they had it they cracked the windscreen. So I took it back to have the windscreen replaced. When I took it in there was no wind noise anywhere, when I got it back I now have wind noise on the passenger side as is described here. So my theory is whatever plastic or molding parts they have remove to replace a windscreen are the problems. I believe it to be the outside plastic piece that is on the exterior A-frame adjacent to the windscreen. I plan to use some tape to do some testing to see if this is the case. There is a JLR bulletin in another post that describes removing this piece (along with a bunch of other 'fixes') and adding some double-sided tape. I will report back.

Had the same issue with my 2025 LWB. Took the vehicle in for a wind noise that seemed to be coming in from the small window were the mirror is located. After one day, they called me back saying that repairs were made and that everything was fixed. Drove the vehicle out of the dealership and returned back after a couple of blocks with the same issue. It looks that they put some type of clay (putty) looking stuff. Then after 7 days, they opened up a ticket with LR manufacturer and after 2 weeks they called me to tell it was finally fixed. BUT....... another issue occurred.

Now they said, while doing the test drive. Vehicle seemed to have an issue with the transmission not shifting or allowing to shift to drive or Parking. They had to tow the vehicle back to the dealership and it seems that whole transmission needs to be replaced. OMG. Literally, I've had the vehicle for one months with less than 1K miles and all this has happend. I guess $150K doesn't matter when it comes to reliability. More money more problems :)

As follow up I confirmed the plastic trim piece on the exterior A-pillar is the issue with mine. When I used packing tape over the trim piece onto the windshield the wind noise disappeared. You can see a pic of the area I'm talking about in the other post about wind noise.

Now I have to see what a permanent fix might be. The JLR bulletin references some kind of double sided molding tape so I guess I'll try to find that.

A quick update for you all.
a- The entire door assembly was replaced. I was told they had to do it, because they had noted that the plate holding the side mirror was damaged and a gap was present between the plate and bolt holding the mirror. This may have happened in factory or work shop. This change did not solve the problem.
b- I was told that little triangular glass had been replaced four times. Reason, JLR did not know they had a batch problem and were sending out faulty parts when replacements were being requested.
c- According to a technical note foam was inserted in the cavity between the little speaker and triangular window.
d- The above did not solve the loud noise I was hearing at speeds over 30mph. The body shop did a good job in identifying that the noise was from the seal around the main window, and later found out that JLR have changed the design of the seal completely! The seal change removed the loud noise I was experiencing. But know I hear the wind noise that rest of you hear at speeds over 45/50 mph. JLR technical came to investigate this. They placed microphones and computer in the car and test drove at different speeds and then did the same with another 2024 model, not 2025 model! They concluded that my car was 1DB quitter than the other car, and this noise is normal to this design of car. I am now waiting for the report and considering test driving a 2025 model before deciding on the next step.

So sorry to hear all you and your poor vehicle went through, thank goodness there was no collateral damage. Hope this all gets properly sorted for you and the others dealing with it.

"Operating as designed"... I had Lexus try using that crap defense on me (as most manufacturers will attempt to do) and took them to both the mandated sham NADA arbitration, and then a State AG Lemon Law hearing. I proceeded to debunk that misused-overused term, which their three factory experts who were present tried to push relentlessly. They lost by unanimous decision. The local counsel Lexus USA retained walked over and shook my hand afterwards (I had no counsel), while the Lexus reps couldn't even look me in the eye. Relentless pursuit of perfection, my a$$.

Merci
