Given the suspension of V8 orders, I was looking into reviews of the I6 engine and this pair of videos on YouTube was interesting.

V8 SE LWB:

I6 SE SWB:

Overall the I6 seems to be have more power upfront, is quieter, and more fuel efficient so that you can drive longer distances between refueling. Seems like an okay compromise and the only downside is that there isn’t the autobiography trim. I’m wondering why are so many on the forum seem to be firmly set on getting V8s?

For me it's the 523 HP and 0-60 4.6 second draw of the V8

I've had this Motor in my last 2 BMWs and it is amazing

The v8 sound is secondary, but will still be lovely

I think it depends on personal preference and what else is in your garage. If I want to be doing 0-60 pulls the range isn’t the car leaving my driveway.

Both choices have compromises, ones more efficient vs the other more powerful, ones more expensive, the other doesn’t sound as good and so on. If I was in the US market not being able to get ATB trim would be a contributing factor. Depends what compromise you are willing to make.
When I seen 14mpg 😯 on the v8 in reviews I figured that’s not suitable for me. We went with the D350 ATB (N/A in USA) because we do a lot of long distance driving and don’t want to be thinking of refuelling all the time.

After just hitting 6,000mi, my I6 has been phenomenal... really can't say enough about how quick and responsive it is. Completely different world from the supercharged V6 L405; which I owned for years. I've owned the G63 and other high power SUVs and this just seems to suit this particular car very well. I will echo another sentiment above. If I want straight line speed, I'm most certainly not doing it in my full-size Range, lol.

...I'll be doing that in my 992 Turbo S when it arrives in a couple weeks :ROFLMAO: Pics to come...

one of the reasons to get a V8 SUV nowadays is that you don't know how much longer you can get a V8 SUV in a future. With the hybrids essentially at V8 power level now, there's a not too small chance that we're seeing the last V8 Range Rovers.
The reason I prefer the V8 over the I6 is the effortlessness of it & the freight train nature of the supercharged V8. I assume the power mapping of the turbo V8 is very similar. The I6 is a completely different experience. It's not bad, it's different.

I would agree in the sports/super car segment of owning V8s/10s/12s before they're obsolete. But sorry, I can't agree in the SUV space. There is just no practical or value proposition in it when the 6 has way more than you would ever need. The flat turbo 6 is evident in other top trims from makers like Porsche and BMW. And I'm not sure if the "freight train nature" analogy is the best way to make a point on this topic lol but these are just opinions.

A Honda RAV4 (or maybe a Civic) is "more than you ever need" so that's not really a good argument. We're talking about a luxury car where we're already way beyond what one needs. Practicality and especially value are very subjective things. I'm glad we don't agree on everything, life would be boring.

Having said all that, if the P510e was available in the ATB trim, that would most definitely be my choice when I place my order. Until then, I'll stick with the V8s. And I'm too old to have sportscars :)

I don't care much for the source of the engine, I don't know why it matters?
Yes, really. Call me an idiot, I don't care :)
someone asked "why" and I responded with my thoughts. Not intending to convince anyone, just shared my opinion. ¯\(ツ)

Sometimes having the most powerful of anything is what folks want. I have a BMW 760 .Did I need a V12? Absolutely positively not. Why do folks gets the S580 vs S500.
Personal preference to have the best or "highest" model.
I fall into that category.
My position is partly that I've been there with previous vehicles such to have some foundation of understanding of your comment... G63, S65, etc. Had some of the heaviest hitters (sans Rolls, Bentley) and as we get a little older I feel that it makes more sense to have cars that are "purpose build." The 406 isn't my only car but when I want a comfortable and plush, well-appointed cruiser, the 460 gets the nod. When I want speed I'll jump in the Turbo S. Hard to envision the new one as anything but a comfy cruiser 🤷‍♂️

1500+ miles with my I6 so far, and I'd have to say it sounds nice, has adequate power and does its job well. Overall very happy with the powertrain as a whole and well matched to this vehicle.

Oh, and for those who care, it gets some pretty impressive fuel economy on the highway. 30MPG at 72 MPH, and 35 MPG at 62 MPH.
