Found this yesterday while doing pre-winter checks:

Does anyone have a list of original LR part number(s) to get this fixed? This looks fairly recent, hopefully the shafts/rack are OK. Steering works perfectly, zero vibrations, noises, etc.

Also, how big of a job is this to replace?

NOTE: The oily residue on multiple surfaces in the photo is Blaster Surface Shield rust protection.

U will need to remove the other tie rod to replace the boot.

Oem part # QFW500020
Or u can get the Lemforder, a lot cheaper than LR brand
Thanks. Do you have any personal experience with Lemforder? I stay away from 3rd party parts ever since I got a set of non-OEM sway bar bushings from Atlantic British (they said they work fine), and they disintegrated just over a year later, forcing me to to replace them with OEM ones (so far perfectly fine for 3 years) AND pay for labor to install. Looks like the difference between Lemforder and OEM is around $50

Another question - I see a lot more of QFW500010 available. Some items say it's for full size LR, some say it's for LR3/LR4. Are there interchangeable with QFW500020?

I'll take a closer look with a borescope this weekend. If it just detached on the wheel side and the inside looks relatively clean, I will try the zip tie method. I really do not want to burn money on doing unnecessary repairs, alignment, etc. My current alignment is absolutely perfect - zero pull to the side, zero vibrations, no abnormal tire wear. I'd hate to lose that.

Alright....took a look with a borescope today.

Good news: the boot is NOT cracked. Guess some dealership ape that last worked on it many years did not secure it properly and it just came off at some point. I do not even see the metal clamp that used to hold it in place.

Bad news: there is a good amount of surface rust on the inner wall, but (more good news) not on the rod itself (see pic below). I am going to try to remove the clamp on the smaller side of the boot to slide it down and inspect the connection between the rack and the tire rod

Few more questions:

1. What kind of grease needs to be placed on the ball joint between the rack and the tie rod? I'd like to check what I have there now and maybe add/replace some since it was exposed to the elements.

2. I'd like to spray some Blaster Surface Shield inside the "cup" in the rack (as shown in the pic) to stop more rust from developing there. Is that a problem?

3. Looks like the metal clamp for the boot is P/N LR032372. I watched some videos and it looks like a royal pain to clamp it down well without particular tools (due to lack of space there). Should I just use a nice wide plastic zip tie and be done with it?
