Hello Forum,

I'm currently the owner of a 2004 HSE looking to upgrade my vehicle. Price considerations aside, what model is superior overall- the Sport SC (or LE) or the Full Size SC.

I don't really need the extra capacity, its more a function of the which is the superior vehicle. I'm also considering a Cayenne Turbo to give you an idea of my preferences.

Thank you for your feedback.

In my opinion, they are both nice cars. Firstly, I just like the full size RR because there are less of them around than the RRS. Secondly, the full size is bigger inside, once you buy the sport, you are stuck with that size (unless you sell it and by the RR), although that might not be a determining factor for you.

I looked at both the RRS and the RRS SC and the HSE RR extensively. I found that the RRS was not anything like a real RR. The inside is not nearly as spacious and comfortable. I also found it to handle poorly and drive less smoothly. I would say get an HSE or a SC full size range rover. If price is no option then go with the SC.

I debated both have 4 kids. Have a people hauler lx 470 so wanted a car for myself. Still went with the RR liked it so much added the overfinch third row seat. Every one always want to go in Dad's car including my wife. With homes in the mountains and a house I can either ford a creek or go 30 minutes around I need the 4wd capabilities. If you stay on road you may not want to drop the dough and look elsewhere. However, I have never looked back.

FYI the RR is the FFRR like The Open is the British Open.

When I had my Boxster in for service this past summer they gave me a Cayenne. I had it for the weekend and it convinced me that I would NEVER own that car in any form. It is small, barely luxurious and did virtually nothing for me. I definitely like the Toureg interior better.

As for your RR question. The full size is clearly superior. It has all of the top RR technology, it is larger, more powerful, more prestigious, more comfortable, better design, etc. There is really no question here.

I would bet that the vast majority of the Range Rover Sport buyers would have gone full size if they had the funding.

As you know as a Porsche owner, everything is an option on a Porsche, including luxury. The Cayenne in my garage, with full leather package, has more leather and is viewed as "more luxurious" than my FFRR with the luxury package. The Cayenne you drove as a loaner probably wasn't very well optioned. The Cayenne, to its detriment, is a womans car through and through.

If it's between the two LR products, full size all the way... duh.

I own a 911 and have had other 911s in the past. They absolutely kill you with ridiculous option packages. I never really bought into that aspect of Porsche myself- for me it was all about the rear engine experience. I must admit that my 997 model is vastly superior to the previous 996 as far as the interior goes.

Something about the 2008 Twin Turbo Cay appeals to be but I agree that the styling a major disappointment overall and the market appears to be filled primarily by soccer moms and would-be h-wood starlets.

At this stage I'm leaning towards a short lease on the 08 RR SC. I agree that Sport's interior and the way it grips the road are both giants step downward. I know Sport handles corners better but I would characterize the RR as a far more stable and solid driving vehicle if that makes any sense.

Glad we all see eye to eye and no punches had to be thrown. Haha. Let us know when you join the family.

Thanks.

I've owned quite a few of both:

2 RRS S/C's ('06's)
1 FFRR S/C ('06)
1 FFRR HSE ('06)
3 RRS S/C's ('08's)

In my opinion, the RRS S/C handles SIGNIFICANTLY better than the RR S/C OR HSE, and I mean SIGNIFICANTLY. The interior is definitely a downgrade, BUT the exterior looks updated. I don't know about you guys but the FFRR is starting to look a bit dated and stodgy... Now, I absolutely hated the interior of the RRS when it first came out in 2006, but most recently in 2008 they upgraded it and I think it looks significantly better, with nicer wood trim, a better aluminum trim, black plastic (instead of grey), and nicer leather with the lux package. The RRS is great if you are single or if you only drive around 1 or 2 people all the time. The FFRR is the way to go, however, if you have a family or need to transport a lot more items, and don't mind driving a bit slower. I notice that when I drive the FFRR I slow down a bit, and cruise around, whereas with the sport (just as the name implies), I drive around just as quickly as if I was in a 5-series sports sedan. It's hard to say one is much better than the other, because they both have something the other one lacks (And one MAJOR reason why I keep on switching between them!). In a perfect world you'd own ONE OF EACH!

Why would you want 3 2008 Sport SCs?

I was wondering the same thing. And if you have three, why don't you have two RRS and one FFRR S/C? That way you can have both.

Thanks.

These aren't all at the same time... This is one after the other, I changed colors, the first RRS S/C I had was an '06 and I sold it 1 week after I bought it @ a premium to someone else. The second one I bought was a black on white '06.. Then I bought another '08 in white on white, then the last one I have (which I currently drive) is a Limited Edition RRS S/C..

I'm probably going to sell it now that info came out that in 2009 new engines are coming out. Wouldn't want to hold it until then and lose a crapload of money!

I am STILL undecided! I don't want a Turbo Cay. It doesn't suit me. It's either the Full Size or the Sport, both SC.

Money is not a concern, somebody help me out!

i agree, with kilikay, try them both out. RRS & FFRR owners are fairly entrenched when it comes to this subject. However, both are nice cars and you won't go wrong with either. Since money is no object, why don't you get both.
I can afford either car- but I'm not at all indiscriminate with my money. I'd never waste money that way. I'd loved the 2004 HSE until the Sport came out then I started contemplating each of them.

Let me just say. There is a reason the FFRR Supercharged is more expensive than the RRS Supercharged. Go take a look.

Thanks.

I think the post from Kilikay describes very well the differences between the two, and it depends on your family situation, space and luxury standards and as well as what feeling it generates for you when you drive - which one puts the bigger smile on your face!

Some people do have both the RRS and FFRR or prefer a certain selection from the lineup, each has its place, even if the badging of the RRS irks some of our FFRR brethren, but hey, this was LR's marketing decision! :D

Since you like Porsches (I also enjoy driving my 997 for different reasons than the RRS), the feeling of the FFRR will certainly feel mushy by comparison, whereas the RRS is much tighter, but by no means equivalent to the Porsche 997. I've driven a Cayenne S...can't say I like the styling much, but it's definitely stiffer. If you want top of the line indisputable luxury, can't beat the FFRR that's for sure.

One other element for you may be if you choose to enjoy the world of off-roading - do you mind some pinstriping or mud/dirt/dust on an RRS vs. a FFRR?

Good luck. :D

I don't think they meant buy both, but test drive both...back to back. The reason why I keep on changing around is because I couldn't decide at first, but now the last 3 I have purchased have all been RRS S/C's because I can't go back to driving the FFRR anymore, it just makes me feel unsafe (personal opinion) when I have to make emergency maneuvers on the freeway @ 75mph.. But hey, you sacrifice ride comfort and luxury for the RRS's handling.. Also, styling is subjective, but IMO the FFRR is looking a little long in the tooth now, but still very regal... (just an opinion...)
