In looking through the owner's manual, and reviewing the In Control app, it appears as though adding a sim card will allow upgrade to In Control Pro which seems to have more functionality. Can someone confirm that by adding a sim card, that is true. If so, does someone have a picture as to where the sim card slot is (the owner's manual is less than precise) and finally owner's manual says 3G card. Can a 4G card be installed?

Thank you

The SIM card is located in the center console, next to the HDMI and charging port. Your car should come with 3 months of free data, then you have to sign up for a plan with ATT, which is $20/month for unlimited. This gets you live traffic updates and some other stuff. I know some people have set up a 4G hotspot with their car, which I might do once my 3 months is up, but I don't know how to do that right now.

How did they setup a 4G hotspot? I was wondering if I could just get my car to use my cell phones data plan by connecting to it, but I do not know if the traffic/nav functions will use the data from that.

The car does not have to use the SIM card, it can use a wifi hotspot instead. If you guys aren't OK with the 3G SIM or AT&T, or any other part of it, you can just get a Verizon 4G Mi-Fi or something, stick it in the car, and configure the system to use the Wifi hostpot. It will work perfectly fine.

I'd rather do that. How do you configure the car to run off the mi-fi instead of the SIM card? Can you plug it into the power port in the center console and keep it powered that way? Also, do you have to manually connect the car to the mi-fi each time you start it or will it automatically connect with no hitches? Thanks for the help.

Mine has 20 hours of use on the battery, so I would imagine that standby would be much more. I drive my car daily, so charging should be enough. I cannot figure out how to set it to not shut off after being idle for a while.
Ok, cool. I was talking to a friend with a mifi device and he said that once he shuts his car off, the device shuts down, even if it's plugged in. If what you're saying is true, then we can keep it plugged into the port in the center console and on all the time, when we start the car, it'll recharge the battery and never go off. Seems like a great solution and it's $10 a month for 4G as opposed to the $20 plan through ATT for 3G.

Supposedly there is a setting that shuts off the "automatic off" when the car is shut down; turning off the charge to the mifi. I am going to look for it in the settings menu when I get in the car. Despite the battery life in the mifi, I am going to order a 22,000 mAh battery powerbank to act as a power backup. They are all over Amazon for about $30... far cheaper than the Celllink system that needs to be hardwired in. There is no way in hell I am paying $20 a month for 3G that is virtually unusable where I live in the US anymore.
That's be great if we can shut that off. Is the battery, that you're talking about, charged through a cigarette lighter port?

Seems like the hotspot doesn't want to connect all the time, so I'm going to try the SIM card method, but I'm still having the issue where it says SIM card removed when I try to connect to data. The instruction manual says that the SIM card goes all the way into the slot and to remove it, you have to press on it and it will pop up. Mine doesn't go all the way in, so I'm thinking that's the issue. Has anyone seen this before?

So far so good on mine... It has been connecting every time I get in the car without me doing anything. My sim card goes all of the way in, so I would venture to bet that is the problem with that sim warning.

Has anyone in Canada been able to get the factory installed SIM card to work on a 2017? With the SIM in, the car just doesn't seem to find any network to connect to so it just keeps searching for a signal. The dealer has let me know that hey have come across this issue on a full size 2017 as well.

The car will connect to my home network when in the driveway, and I know that I can use my phone as a hotspot (and I have connected it that way), but I am yet to find a way to get the car to automatically connect to my phone as a hotspot when I enter the car -- I always have to go into the settings and do the setup which isn't something I want to do (and the car won't connect to any networks when it is moving, so if I forget to do it before driving off my driveway, I am unless at a long stoplight!).

I really just want to be able to use live traffic and need the internet connection for that. 3G speed is fine if only the SIM card would work. I guess I could take a SIM card from another device and see if it will find a network, but thought that I would also check in here.

Initially I tried to just use my phone as a hot spot, but had the same connectivity issue. I installed a Verizon MiFi in it and it works great.. The MiFi is already attached to my account. Best part is the car is always connected to it, because I have a battery powerbank attached to it. If the Rogers account is 4G, then the sim card wont work in the car, FYI.
