I want to beef up my exhaust sound for my RRS SC.

Before I decide on which exhaust to order would anybody suggest removing the resonator as a cheaper and better option?

Seeing how there is very little detail about exhaust modding on the internet, ive recently pulled the trigger on a super sprint non-resonated xpipe. I found this to be the most cost efficient way to get the sound I want from the v8. The X-pipe costed me around 1400 Canadian dollars including Installation. The good part about this mod is that there is no hack job required to get it to fit with your stock left and right exhaust mufflers. I also like the fact that I got to keep my Square autobiography tips and gain the sound of ... kinda exactly a c63. The pipe gives you the raspy rumble a v8 with an x pipe produces. This is for the people that doesnt want trouble with hacking the original exhaust and dealing with "going back to stock". The good news for those of you in america is that you can get my pipes for 700 dollars + tax. I hope this gives you guys another option for those of you wanting to beef up the noise level!

So for those who have done this, does it make it louder too or just throatier? I have a 4.4 that I want more throatiness too, but I like how tame the volume level is. Headers instead maybe?

Yes, seriously, no drone. It's opened up but only #7 was deleted, the rest of the mufflers/ resonators/cats are still intact. If you do the normal cruise on the freeway at 70 mph, at around 2k rpm (in 6th), it is still silent as stock. If you gently touch the gas you can even still hear that slight whine from the blower, after 3k with a heavier foot the nice exhaust tone comes out. No drone just not complete silence, a real nice exhaust note IMO.
I am 26 and I grew up racing, this is my 4th car. I figured it was time to give the range a little aftermarket love. I bought it new and just hit 62k

Here's a throwback... This was my old Sport back in 2009. This was a full custom exhaust. Ran me about $1200 if I can remember correctly. We deleted everything from #9 back. We replaced #9 with some Bassani Race mufflers, and it was just straight pipes all the way back. It was perfect IMO. Don't mind the ghetto rims... After all, this was over 5 years ago, it wasn't that bad back then. I'm look for another Sport right now. Looking for a S/C this time. I will be doing to the same setup on it when I find one.

Went to Midas this morning on a whim to have them remove resonator #7 from my '10 S/C. I only had an hour, so I figured they could get it done. However, when they put it up on the lift they said it was a 2 hour gig minimum.. (had a babysitter at home, couldn't sit that long).

They said they needed to lower the exhaust (from the rear bumper side) in order to weld the new pipes where the resonator used to be. That combined with the confusing look on their face made me scratch it for another day. Anyone local to Seattle that would recommend a good shop?

Dan Fast is great, I will go there. Funny though, they didn't want to install a xpipe on my Cayenne GTS the last time I was there.. about a year ago. However, they did do stuff similar before. I'm not sure what they will say, but they are probably the best in the area.

I just had my #7 resonator removed on my 5.0 SC and I think it sounds great for the price/process. No highway drone. If you drive normally you will barely hear it on the highway unless you step on it. Sounds best between 1k - 2k rpm in low gears. Has a nice deep growl to it especially in a garage with a cold start up.

I decided to try out deleting the #7 resonator and I'm not sure how i feel about it yet. Its definitely louder than i thought it would be. Nice deep tone when accelerating and no highway drone even at 70-80mph. One thing thats really annoying is the back fire when in sport mode and slowing down through the gears. I might give it some time and see if i will get used to it. Here is a video of me accelerating from a dead stop.

I quite like the burble when decelerating. Just this Monday evening I was in the yard pulling weeds and wifey was on her way home from the gym. There is a little bit of a downhill stretch toward our house and my ears perked up liking what they were hearing. Look up, and here is my rig coming home. Backfire it is not. There is no "pop". Just a "blub, blub, blub..." as the vehicle slows. Agree it is much more pronounced in Sport mode. Each his own.

I like the burble sound as well but mine actually pops two or three time when decelerating in sport mode. Not sure if it has to do with my specific SUV or if it has to do with the pipes itself. The Muffler shop said they used 2.5" pipes instead of 2.25" which i think is the correct stock pipe sizing. I don't hear any popping in normal drive mode.

HAHAHA.. WOW! Just deleted #7.., didn't expect that. I was outside of the shop walking around and heard a crazy exhaust start up.. I knew it was mine, but didn't believe it. So much louder than I thought. Coming from multiple high HP cars with modified exhausts.. the 'stock' exhaust is loud w/out #7. Backfire it does.. quite a bit actually. Slightly embarrassing pulling into the neighborhood.. but the smile I had during my usually boring drive home was infectious. To each his own.. its louder than you think if your contemplating.. but I like it. lol.. not sure what the wife will say though.

Glad you like it. I loved the sound especially when you accelerate but the backfire drove me nuts. After a month of having it I ended up putting the resonator back on. It seems like the backfire is more on a supercharged bs HSE based on the A/F mapping. Even with a full exhaust system it seems like you will have some backfire all the time.

This is my very first performance V8 vehicle and I love the stock sound. And besides, I live in a town home with great neighbors glued next to our unit and I keep the rover in the garage. I think hearing that thing fire up at 5 in the morning is bad enough for them. I can't imagine they'd be thrilled at a louder exhaust with no res.

Just removed #7 myself. Sound is very deep. A nice little rumble on a cold-start and a bit louder than stock at low throttle. Mid to high throttle is where you really hear the difference. A deep nice sound that really allows you to hear the V8. As previously reported no drone at highway speeds and in my case no backfires/popping at all during deceleration. Its nothing crazy, although I could see how someone might think its a bit too much. IMO not offensive and only adds a bit of excitement when you go mid-to-full throttle. Its like having a stock valve system exhaust.

If you are on the fence I would recommend it as an alternative to replace the full exhaust system given that the current price for magnaflow systems are about $1100. All in all about $170 for the #7 resonator delete and tips. Very reasonable option since you really would not gain much performance from the full exhaust.

Today I just removed my #7 resinator. The very large one next to the muffler under the center of the truck. I have a 2013 Range Rover Sport GT Limited Edition 5.0 non supercharged. I must say I love this modification. The sport sounds amazing. Very similar to a Grand Cherokee SRT8. Some pics below.

I read through this entire thread and decided to pull the trigger for this modification for my 10 Sport N/A.

My local exhaust shop in Portland removed number #7 for $70. Without a doubt, this was the best $70 I ever spent modding a car.

At idle and cruising you can't tell any significant difference. During a cold start (high idle) or putting your foot into it you get a very nice burble.

For anyone on the fence, I would highly recommend you give it a shot!
