Range Rover dealership experience

Wow, I'm annoyed. Just a warning - part rant.

1) Dealer 1: Takes forever to respond.
2) Dealer 2: Super friendly and great customer service after I reached out to the GM. I was a bit surprised at the MSRP + $12K over 2025, but was reassured by the sales guy that it was due to 2026 pricing. About to buy the new RR and then...

Dealer 1 reaches out - and we chat. They confirm the new 2026 pricing is $133K CAD and not $145K CAD per dealer 2.

I called up dealer 2...with interesting words. They say that dealer 1 must be wrong....again and again.

Then I get an email indicating that $133K is the right price for MSRP for the 26MY RR P400.

I am beyond annoyed right now. This is how Range Rover treats people?!

I didn't know dealers could inflate and "lie" about MSRP. Dealer 2 also knows I'm a senior executive of a large corporation. I wonder if that's why they tried to take me to town, but...surely the "cost" outweighs the benefit given the public persona but here we are.

Should I try dealer 3? (new reach out?)

But yeah, this has completely killed my enthusiasm towards RR. If this is how they treat me before they get my money...

Sorry to hear that experience but Land Rover dealers have a well earned reputation of being difficult to deal with. They play hard ball with any negotiation but when it comes time to trade in they low ball you.

These experiences reflect more on the dealer than the brand. I’ve found some great Mercedes dealers and some sucky ones but I don’t let that experience affect how I look at the brand.

You have a right to be pizzed The unscrupulous salesman and the dealer team are working the floor for max profit.
At this point nothing to lose by trying Dealer 3, you never know they might give you 5K off for incentive.
Whatever you do enjoy your buying process its a neat experience ordering then taking delivery of your new machine

Both Dealerships are correct, the msrp is 133k CND but by the time it actually hits the dealership it wil be 145k CND because of luxury tax, Freight and Pre-Delivery , and some other charges. So dealer 1 is correct by stating it is 133k, but dealership 2 is also correct, because you wont be able to purchase it for 133k, the actual cost will be 145k to purchase when it hits the dealership. Sounds like dealership 2 was more "truthful, in explaining that will cost 145k when you plan on purchasing it, compared to dealership 1 who didnt choose to disclose the added costs on top of the 133k msrp.

No, the BOS lists each line item. The MSRP base price for the 26 P400 RR is $133K. Everything else is a line item afterwards. I'm comparing BOS with BOS.

I'm sure, based on what you've said you've owned as vehicle brands before, this is not your first show with silly dealerships and salesman tactics designed to confuse and frustrate you.
Honestly, this has never happened to me. Everything from Hyundai to Infiniti to Mercedes to Audi to Rolls Royce to almost everything in between - this is a first. Yeah one dealer will mark up freight or admin fees, but I've never seen anyone not just mess with MSRP but after confronting them tell me a bullshit story. This does not bode well for the brand.

Too bad that you are getting the run around by both dealers. If you have a dealer 3 option, by all means, get a quote as you have nothing to lose. At the end of the day, I always go with the dealer who gives me the greatest confidence when dealing with them. This unfortunate behavior by dealers of all brands and makes is mainly due to high staff turnover rates, especially at low volume dealers.

Same in the Porsche world, really.

Like has been said above, it is the dealer's representation of the Range Rover/LR brand, not the brand itself. Play the game and go get a 3rd dealership's dog and pony show and see what happens.

That is all about communication and saying what you mean (fees, taxes, etc.) wrapped up in a definition of "MSRP" and whatnot. Then again, YOU are responsible for pulling all that information out of the salesman as well. Go in armed, ask many questions, flat out tell them they are full of poo and you are also talking to two, now maybe three other dealerships, and you're in control, not them.

I'm sure, based on what you've said you've owned as vehicle brands before, this is not your first show with silly dealerships and salesman tactics designed to confuse and frustrate you.

I will state that Dealer 2 did a hell of a job of 'saving' the deal. We talked it through, like men. I'm close to signing but sometimes it's better to have a hard conversation and that we did.

Those two prices are too much of a coincidence - I think there is some confusion. It's definitely total $145K starting price in Canada.-after Luxury Tax, PDI and Freight etc for 2025. The $133K is the listed base price before those items, but you cannot buy the car for that amount I have had the dealers quote it different ways too, but when you get a written quote, the listed base price will be $133K as in your case. Reason being, the luxury tax is based on the final retail price with options etc. Good you sorted it out regardless. (they like to hide the luxury tax so they stick into the base price often)

And...signed with dealer 2.

No they made a mistake and I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. The base price of the my26 p400 in Canada is 133k. Full stop.

The adjusted and accepted bill of sale reflects that. The erroneous one started at 145k before all of the things mentioned

Not sure what your "signed with dealer 2" documentation says. In California, my signed contract on a build order says dealer sets price at delivery and payment date and customer has right to walk away whole financially if dealer price at delivery is unacceptable. Discussion with dealer about price in advance of delivery may be just discussion. Other car brands price build orders similarly, e.g. in my experience Ferrari and Porsche.

Buying a vehicle off the lot, current stock, is different.
