Quieter 22" tyres - what should I buy to replace Continental Cross Contact's?

Hi all
I doubt this is the first post but cant find specifics - my L405 (3.0 TDV6 2014) has 22" 275/40/22 Continental Crosscontact LX Sport which after thinking there is something wrong with the car due to a nasty reverberance on certain surfaces, (concreate is horrible, old tarmac isnt nice) - this is motorway speed specific really.

Long story short, some research led to the fact that the Conti's are actually really noisy and probably the source, even though they are Land Rover fitment and came from Land Rover as new with them, does anyone recommend an alternative having had this problem and solved it specifically on 22"s or replaced the Conti's and found the noise much improved?

Thanks
Simon

I cannot recommend the Michelin Pilot Sport SUV. Unfortunately, the previous owner mounted these which are no good below +7C. Basically useless. The are hard, thump over every bump, and grip too well for a heavy SUV.

Michelin makes great tires. The Pilot Sport All Season 4 would be a better idea. Check out Tirerack for ideas and reviews.

My next tires will likely be 285/40R22 for a little more sidewall and an overall diameter matching the 255/55R20 winter tires.

Thanks for the advice. Always expect Michelin to be great no matter what, but good to know from experience the Pilot Sports are not quite right for a heavy SUV. All season is a good shout, in the UK it only drops below 7C for a few weeks of the year so always been fine with summer tyres, but a more compliant and quieter ride would be good.

If you want the quietest tire, I would suggest Perelli Scorpion with their noise canceling technology. I believe they call it PNCS. I have utilized them and they are much quieter than Continental offerings. Anything is better than a continental tire. I am using Yokohama Geolander’s at the moment that are the best tires I have tried to date (251,000 miles on my L405).

Bridgestone Alenza Ultra AS. Quiet, incredible wear and good in snow 👍

I swapped to my 20” Falken AT Trail all-terrains for fall/winter use today. I forgot how quiet and smooth they are compared to the 22” Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV street/sport truck summer tires. All the suspension noises and jarring is gone. The shop that sold these to the previous owner shouldn’t have. They do not match the handling characteristics of the Range Rover.

Looks like next spring I will mount the 22” Pirelli Scorpion Winter tires I have to see if they ride better than the Michelins. They are at the winter wear bars and are now considered all-season tires. If they are better, then I will be looking at a new all-season 22” tire in the future.

The Yokohama Geolander X-CV are highly rated at a decent price.

Hi , I have only had to buy new tires once, before returning a leased full size RR under 30K after 3 years and they were shot before that time was up, all others after I got in the 45K range, not sure what type of Continental, was RR#3 around 2005-08..Sales guy basically told me was a general problem at that time with Continentals, so never again. I like Michelins or Pirelli's best, but on my older models some of the cheaper South Korean brands have given
good mileage and adequate noise levels.

I bought some continentals for my 2020RR during the winter (I’m in Colorado) and I absolutely hated them. So noisy. They were terrible at speeds over 60. I was so disappointed. The tire place from where I purchased them didn’t have the pirellis in stock and I didn’t want to wait. Biggest mistake ever! The pirelli scorpions are really nice. I just got my 2023RR and they are standard on it. They are so quiet. Loving driving over 60 again.
