To save money on my V8 build, I'd be sacrificing the semi-aniline leather package first. It's very misleading anyways as it's not just $1850 and almost double instead.

More leather is more important than improved leather, especially since critical places like the dash and steering are not leather without that 1500 package. The build tool previews are also very misleading as it doesn't reflect that, and shows extended leather by default so less people are likely choosing that option only to eventually get a plastic steering center.

I'm between a fully decked out i6 and a v8 with some options shedded (semi-aniline, fridge, etc).

If you're not wanting the massage seats, yeah it's not necessary.

 

Correct me if I’m wrong but The current l405s all came with the steering wheel airbag cover in leather. It was only that L494 Range Rover Sport that had the plastic airbag cover (unless you went with an ATB). Kind of shocked to see the new Range Rover being down graded to a plastic airbag cover as standard.

 

Correct — to my knowledge, all US spec at least from 2016 and on were leather. My guess this is due to the "less is more" mantra and people may want non-leather options, so they went with more earth friendly plastic* for the base. That opens up a whole other conversation of is plastic better than leather for the earth — e.g. microplastic pollution, etc. — I know, it’s complicated.

* not sure if they use the same plastic base cover wrapped in leather or if it’s the same frame just wrapped in a synthetic fabric.

The plastic airbag cover was only found on the L494 Range Rover Sport (unless you went with an ATB). I was surprised to learn that the 2017 Range Rover comes standard with a plastic airbag cover.
