I am at the point where I want to sell my rangerover and never buy another one again :x :x :x . The problem is that every morning I have to jump start the **** thing - the dreaded battery drain. I replaced the battery 3 months ago and remove the cd cartridge every day as suggested on this forum and still the battery dies every day.

I remember someone posting about removing some fuses to help with this but I can't find the original post. Does anyone have any ideas how to cure this battery drain ?? I really am at the end of my tether and want to avoid going to the dealers and getting ripped off.

Any suggestions ???

Barry.

I understand your anger
Although this forum is a great help, some problems should be solved correctly and immediatly by Land Rover Service ( Factory and Dealers world wide) Biggest example: after nowing there is a spline problem since 5 years !!, just now they will start a recall.
Look also my post concerning my navigation problem: the malority of the mechanics are not scilled properly, there part prices are way to high compared to BMW an d Mercedes.
Encountering a problem with the car is not a problem, finding a good mechanic to solve it is another one.

Don't give up until you have it fixed. Here is the link to the thread recounting problems some of us had with an unexplained battery drain.
One month later and I haen't had a problem again so replacing the blower motor worked for me. Here is my last post on that thread.

quote="Norval"]Got my Range back from the dealer today. They think they have resolved the problem.

I had told them about the experience of ajgray295 in Atlanta who had a similar problem and was fixed by the dealer by replacing the blower regulator, part JGO 000021. They followed this line of enquiry and guess what, decided that was the problem with my vehicle as well.

Apparently it is a blower relay with a number of resistors to reduce voltage to the fan, and that is the piece that was malfunctioning. It is wired up to both the ignition and the battery system, very unusually I was told. First time my dealer has seen the problem. This seemed so unlikely a problem that the warranty company originally refused (to the garage) to cover the item, and they had to send them the wiring diagram to prove it.

I haven't seen the paperwork yet, but the part only costs about $140.00 apparently, and takes about one and a half hours to install.

Good luck in figuring it out.

Thanks for that , I think I will bite the bullet and book it into the dealers and ask them about the blower regulator as I am pretty sure this is the problem. I will see what they come up with and of course how much they charge me............. :x

Thanks again

Just curious for those that had the blower motor problem. There is a setting on the stereo for auxillary ventillation that will turn the blower on at a set time and off at another time. Did this somehow get mistakenly set?

Other ways to diagnose this is to hook a current meter up the battery. Measure the current when everything is off. Then start pulling fuses until you see the current drop. You should wait until the computer goes into sleep mode before you try this.

I guess it's a different blower. It is not the main ventilation blower, as far as I know.

Some of us have different experiences with the fuses. For one (lummac, if I recall correctly) pulling fuse 27 was enough, but that did not work for me, and I had to pull fuse 64, I think it was, which is a big one. It was the onlyh way to disconnect the blower because of the strange way it is wired, from what I was told.

Anyway, the problem had the technicians at the dealer stymied for several weeks until I was able to draw on the experience of another member.

Weimaraner 73: - Note that both ajgray and I had the dealer replace the wiring harness first, which was done as a TSBl on some '04s (perhaps yours has had it done?) but not on the '03s as they were not within the VIN range for the TSB but they accepted that it needed to be done and did that first. Frankly I don't know if they had just gone ahead first and replaced the blower motor whether that would have solved it.

I don't think we ever heard from Lummac how he solved his problem.

By the way, you didn't by any chance recently replace your alternator, did you?
