Fuel Injector Replacement

Hi all,

After plenty of rough running issues with my 98 4.6, I finally bought a Faultmate to get to the bottom of it.
Turns out that my Throttle Position Sensor and Injector 2 are bust.

The TPS is easy to replace but can someone tell me how difficult it is to replace one fuel injector?
I had a look today and I can get to it but is there a way of removing it without taking off the plenum chamber?
I have the Rave procedure for it but it seems very long winded!

And any other tips on changing it would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ray.

It's about a 4 hour job to do it per Rave, and if you're going to pull one, you have to pull all 8 because of the solid fuel rail. you atleast need new orings on them so you don't have leaks.

you can do one injector for $100 for LR original, or all 8 with much improved Ford Racing injectors for $300.

(Special order so it'll be a couple extra days till they ship.)

Thanks for that lads.
I like the sound of the performance injectors but I had already bought the new injector. Shupacks work out far cheaper though so I will be getting my hands on some soon as Im sure another will fail in the the near future.

But to get my bus back running tomorrow, could someone tell me what is the best way to de-pressurise the fuel system before removing the injectors?

Thanks,
Ray.

Place a towel under the schrader valve on the fuel rail. Depress the nub in the middle, just as you would a tire valve, with a portion of the towel wrapped around the valve. Don't worry, you'll only get a couple of tablespoons out, if that.
