Yes it is. However, OEMatcivations.com, the link you provided, can disable it. I have used OEMactivations.com to disable it on my p550e as well as my Defender. Honestly though you would never know whether the noise is fake or not; at least I personally could never tell which is what...On the Range Rover, Garett can also activate the adaptive driving beam if you have the LED lighting, as well as other features such as hot stone massage, global window close etc...Garrett will send you a laptop and he will do everything over the phone. Very nice guy and I highly recommend him.

Does this mean, any regular P550e has fake sounds for the ICE sound?

Fully electric, its logic, to have a sound-module, for pedestrians safety.
But while running the regular ICE engine, I never noticed something synthetical sounding.

Or maybe I don't get it right...? ;-)

I am with you Renaco. I never notice any fake engine sound with my P550e unless I am backing up and it makes that very weird noise.

Same with my 550e. Only while reversing, and it’s loud/weird enough to make people turn and stare.

 

Same here on my P550e. No fake ICE noise that I am aware. But then, me listening to all this Uriah Heep VERY loud when I was much younger, perhaps my hearing doesn't get it. I would also like to know if there is something to this.

 

Yes, it's piped into the cabin through the speakers. It's just a bit of low freq growl to mesh with and compliment the natural exhaust note. It's not all the time, just phases in when driving spiritedly. It is rather seemless, you need a good ear to notice it. Fairly easy for a proper petrol head, rare to never noticed by passengers.

 

I tend to see myself, as a very "proper petrol head" ;-), but maybe my ears are damaged, through the "Uriah Heep" phase, in my younger years.
I trust your knowledge, but I will check this with my garage on my next service in October, as I am curious, if and how this is exactly working, and when.

 

@Johnnie17 I was assured by Garrett that it will not void any warranties. Worst case is that the activated additional stuff can be wiped out if dealer is performing something related to the system, in which case Garett will ship out the laptop again, so that it can be reinstated. According to Garett, he has done quite a few of these activations and had no issues thus far. I did it for both my Range Rover and Defender. Both are due to get their first service soon, and if something happens, I will definitely let everyone know. To the best of my understanding, these activations are not altering anything on the car, but rather adding stuff that is already in the car but not turned on at the factory.

I see. I’ve been reluctant to get this turned off because of safety and liability concerns. I just wish it was a loud fake engine noise like our Porsche does.
