Glad I'm not the only one that thinks that lol. Weird that access height doesn't go lower. What size rims do you have? Mine are 23, wonder if that makes any difference?

2 thoughts against Ive heard from dealer: if you live in foul weather area and you "slide" out rather than step on rail, you can dirty your pants leg easily, And people have complained about occasionally missing step up and banging their shins, those edges are sharpish....not option killers but decision considerations

 

Had the steps on our last one and kind of wish we got them for the 460. I’m well over 6’ and I need a bit of a hop up in normal ride height. Lowered is fine for me but still a stretch for my wife. They are dealer installed so still possible to add and strongly considering it.

Yes, I have them ... have had on all my suvs. Wife says they are a necessity. They are great.

 

Crap. I was hoping access height was fine. It was fine for the RRS I've had in the past. Anyone know how much this is as a dealer install?

 

It’s jarring to go from the L460 to a L494. The latter is SO easy to get out of vs the L460

 

option was $4600, I was told dealer is $5600, as I checked when mine was delayed.

 

I've had them on past cars, hated them bc oftentimes got the pant leg dirty.

Don't have them now and have 23'' wheels. No problem getting in/out so far.

 

I ordered my my car with fixed side steps. I think it even looks better with it.

I have them on my RRS, great option.
However, you will have to learn not to open your door just to reach in for something -- shin killer comes out and kicks you right in the shin. After you learn how to stand away when opening the door, it's great.

 

Installed AMP Research steps on my 22 ram and they work great. 2 hr install $1650 plus tax. contact them for RR availability

Does anyone have experience with deployable side steps in snowy climates where they use a lot of salt?

 

On the Ram some times gets iced up and doesn't retract all the way. My caddy had an option to leave extended for the car wash. On the ram close the door while your stepping on the step and they stay extended for the car wash, on drivers side I roll the window down, open the door slightly and have the car wash guy step on the step. AMP also has a switch that leaves them out.

 

I have the deployable side step so much cleaner and classy that the fixed one.

 

We got the deployable steps . Fantastic option specially for wife and kids. Makes getting in and out a breeze. They are kind of noisy when they retract while inside the car .

 

More noisy on new generation than old. We have L405 LWB and we barely hear them retract. With the new one - it almost sounds like they're broken. I was getting nervous but this post made me feel better!

I have the deployable steps on my L405 and would never buy an RR without them. Eight years of use and never had a problem with them. Great for those of us who are short, have/had small kids and now have older parents riding more often.
Had no issues with the deployable steps when we drove the RR for skiing trips, but we didn't live in an area with cold/ice/snow climate.

 

Just installed the running boards I ordered off of alibaba. Long tedious install but not hard at all. Only question I have is about roof access. I can’t seem to find it anywhere on the screen. At first I thought it was because it was aftermarket but I can’t find it in my sv with the oem deployables either. Anyone know where it is ?

Another interesting difference. My mother's L405 Side Steps feel flat. In mine, I feel like they are leaning more forward so you don't stand flat. It almost feels like your going to slide off.

Anyone feel this?

 

Happy I saw this thread. I originally wasn’t getting them. My wife is 5’1 and we have a toddler. I feel like I need them now. You can disable them if you want ?

 

If you change the terrain setting to mud ruts, they don't come out, at least. That's not really disabling them, though. I have been very happy with them. They really are stable and wide (at least in 2016, I haven't tried the new ones yet).

 

They are definitely better than fixed side steps (stick out further, wider as well), but I don't really need them (I'm 6'1). However, it's certainly something nice to have when someone shorter needs a ride.
