Have one not dealer installed. Love it. Only change I would make is on rear window. Offset it to one side of the other. Not in the middle.

Yes, it has a “parking mode” whereby movement near or contact with your car is detected by radar or movement. You can adjust those settings and sensitivity with the Land Rover Dashcam app.

 

I've always had one installed by a reputable chap that makes it seamless and connects to the electric fuse box. (no wires showing, etc)

I have the Land Rover dash cam installed, it was done by my dealer with my supervision as it was the first time he installed one. Everything works great except the time stamp. The time stamp used both in the video display and file name is GMT and I can’t get the video time stamp to be on my local time. Has anyone else faced this? Anyone solved it?

How much does it obstruct front/ rear visibility? Is the main purpose to collect proof of accident or road rage?

 

I don't see it all. The front camera is mounted on the passenger side, near the top of the window right next to the rear view mirror. The rear is in the center top, also not noticeable. I've attached the fitting instructions to better illustrate it.

 

Glad it helped. I forgot to answer your second question about the purpose of the webcam. Mainly it is for security monitoring after-the-fact. If you have an accident, or get a moving violation or someone scratches your car while parked, you have a history to check with. In some states, it can be admitted as legal proof/evidence. The other purpose is for entertainment, by that I mean to watch again a trip you might have taken. I did some unintentional rock crawling last week and wanted to see how I got on the wrong trail. With the video history, I could pinpoint my mistake (and not make it again). Also nice to see how well the Range Rover performs over big rocks.

It depends on your shops hourly rate. It takes about 3 hours to install.

 

Does it work with the Land Rover app or do you have to get a different app? What does it do if for example it senses movement while the car is parked? Do the cameras record well enough at night to see anything?

 

You must have the LR Dashcam app to connect and communicate with the cam, adjust settings and view clips. Other apps will not work with it. To view clips, you can also just remove the SD card and read it in an adapter for any PC/Mac. It's good to get two SD cards, keeping one in the cam at all times. The SD card needs to be robust enough to handle constant use. I use a Samsung Pro Endurance 128GB SDXC Micro SD card.

The cam can sense movement when parked by either radar or g-force. You have the option to choose which one, or both and the sensitivity. Same for driving modes. As for light sensitivity, it's as good as any HD camera (is not 4K) without flash or infrared light assist. 99% of the time, mine is parked where there is sufficient ambient light.

 

How often does it alert you when parked? I was wondering if it was more sensitive than the factory alarm system. Thanks for all the valuable info. The installation looks fairly complex and appears to require removal of a lot of interior trim panels

 

You can adjust the sensitivity of both the radar and g-force. The installation is pretty complicated (involves removing a lot of trim) and should be done by an experienced mechanic. The advantage is it's a clean, matched to the vehicle and no wires exposed. There are lots of aftermarket dashcams but they mostly have wires hanging down to your power outlets. Good luck!

 

Are those of you with this camera happy with it? My dealer wouldn't install it because it "didn't meet their standards." They made it sound pretty terrible.

 

I’ve had the Land Rover dashcam for 2 years now. Installed by the dealer.
It works fine. Nothing fancy but it does the job.

 

Can you use it through the land rover remote app?

No, but there is a dedicated app for the LR dashcam that you can use (intelligently called Dashcam). I rarely use it except for installation and maintenance. I normally just remove the SDXC disk and copy it to my Mac.

After 4 years of use, my only issues with the LR dashcam is that it's max 1080p and would be nice if 4K. It would also be good if there was a real time upload to the Cloud. I would even pay a fee for that so you could see what's going on with your car when you are away from it. Not sure anyone has that capability yet.

Lastly, even with a 128GB disk, you have to be quick to copy any events before it gets overwritten. I was recently in the mountains on a weeklong trip and when I got home, wanted to copy a segment of the trip. I was surprised to find out that much of it had already been overwritten by more recent events. Again, if there was a Cloud capability, this wouldn't be an issue, or at least not as much if you had 1 TB of storage.
