Key Takeaway:

"Much I as I enjoyed it and thought it great fun, the SVR really just served to remind me how special the base V8 RRS is. Not much slower, more comfortable and almost invisible by comparison – and available with the clever 7-seat option that cannot be specified on this new model. I’d take one over this car, but suspect I might be in the minority."

Not a huge surprise. Don't get me wrong though, if the V8 SC and the SVR were the same price, i'd probably take the SVR. I just don't see the extras as being the value of the extra pricing. You can do the upgrades yourself and get very close to a SVR in terms of performance and looks for a fraction of the price. Again, don't mean to ruffle any feathers, as i too would prefer the SVR, just not for the pricing. I've actually be wondering if front and rear facia & light assembly part numbers will be made available to us.

And how would you go about modifying not only the Transmission to shift 50% faster, rev matched down shifts? Or the lighter Sport-Bucket seating? But how about the 4-500 pound weight loss in actual SVR chassis? Also dif Torque vectoring, Suspension enhancements, etc etc.. I bought the identical Startech/Brabus Valve controlled exhaust, it was anything but cheap few bux shy of $6k installed. It isn't just an ECU tune... You can not do what you assume & wrote here

It's funny how we can get caught up in our own car brands or the ones we follow or have owned in the past! Most people won't be able to tell an SVR from the base RRS, even in estoril blue, so Tonka's statement is valid when you look at the big picture.

We have a 2014 E63, but the majority of people don't see anything different from its sibling the E350 ... although I did get a thumbs up today from a few boys at the high school when I picked up my son in the E63 ... obviously they follow the MB brand!

I would think the RRS ATB is a 991 turbo S, while the SVR is a GT3 RS. Both desirable in its own right.

Nice. I might lean towards 991 Turbo : GT3. Or GT3 : GT3RS. Of course that's without any seat time the SVR. I'm sure the experience in the SVR has some intangibles. Not dissimilar to that of the driving difference between a 335 : M3. It's easy to make a 335 faster than the M3, not terribly difficult to make it lap a track faster as well. But the driving difference between them is night and day different.

So maybe the SVR has that intangible quality that makes for a more enjoyable drive and can't fully be replicated via aftermarket modifications on a SC model.

Congratulations! I bet you're super excited. I know i would be.

I happen to like doing my home improvements. I'll typically get better results than if i paid someone. My mechanical skills coupled with my industrial design back ground always pulls me towards designing and building it myself. That's why i kept say "for me". I know i'm not normal. ;)
