Never owned a Rover before but I do have a lot of older family that visit. Would the access height lowering be enough or would the deployable side steps be worth adding on? They are $4600 for the LWB but I've read dealers charging uptown $10,000 to install them after market.
Are the deployable side steps worth it?

How good are the deployable side steps at not coming out when a curb or something else is detected?
They retract back up if they sense an obstacle...or if you step on them before fully deployed.. took a while to get the jist of it. I use them daily for easy in and out and I'm 5'11 height .

Agree with the above. Almost pinched my foot once being quick getting out of vehicle. They do retract if you step on them before being fully deployed. I learned to just slow a split second. I think that shows they are working and if something was there they would retract.

I can't find the fixed steps for my 2024 LWB. RR just sells the deployable ones now. Does anybody the part number? Does buying aftermarket side step void the extended warranty in any way?

There is no fixed steps for LWB from LR, but you can find them easily on EBay. Cost about $500. Your warranty will not be voided because of it.

My newest rover happened to come with them. I had never ordered one with them before. Given that the new cars don’t go as low as the prior gen, even in access height, coupled with the fact that access height does not always work, I have grown to like them and would order them myself on any future car

I have factory fitted Deployable side steps and it helps my wife get into and out of the vehicle much more easily
She hates getting in and out of the SVR when I forget select access height on stopping
They are expensive to have them fitted by the dealer, I was quoted $8K so shopped around for a car that had factory fitted steps so there any issues are covered by the vehicle warranty

Buy aftermarket and install it yourself… total cost was around $1,000 and it took me less than two hours to install without needing to jack up the car.
Do the steps deploy when the car locks and unlock? If not, would the OEM controller make that possible?I purchased mine off of eBay for around $1,000 delivered to California. Shipping was quick (maybe 7 days).
For those considering this modification/enhancement, I just installed them this morning completely by myself and had all four brackets installed in under 45 minutes. I did not use a lift, just put the vehicle in off-road high mode and was very easy to get to everything.This instructions that were provided are found on YouTube… don’t worry about the Chinese writing, your phone can easily translate it but you don’t need the words as the video shows everything (link below). Note - the motor arms go in the rear. Mounting the running boards took another 20 minutes. Connecting the aftermarket control module took under three minutes. You remove four 10 mm bolts from the trunk to get under the spare tire kit area and plug it into the existing wiring. You do not need to run any wires at all as the wiring is pre-ran from the factory from the trunk to the undercarriage. Reinstalling the undercarriage installation requires you to cutout a section to accommodate the motors but it’s easy with some strong shears and it is pre-cut from the factoryso you just cut along the lines.
Disclosure: the aftermarket controller deploys the steps when the doors are open and retracts when closed. This does not allow you to enable/disable the feature from Pivi like a factory option does. For that, I ordered an OEM control module off of eBay and am having the car coded for the option. My coder is out of town so it may be a month or so but I will post when complete. The OEM control module part should be VPLRP0486 for a 2024 RR LWB.

I have the OEM deployable side steps, they deploy when the door opens, which caught me out a few times as the hit my legs
There should be a configuration to allow the steps to be deployed all the time, or to be disabled for off road usage but I have not tried either of these settings
I am not aware of any configuration that allows the steps to deploy on unlocking

The aftermarket controller makes the steps deploy when the doors open and retract when closed. It cannot be programmed or flashed to do it differently but it works well. If you purchase an OEM controller, it can be flashed to your car and works flawlessly, it deploys when the door handles come out and it retracts when the door closes and then extends again when it opens. So the only difference is when approaching from the outside the aftermarket waits to deploy until the door is open AND after,Arles you cannot activate from the PIVI or make it stay out with door closed.

The OEM deployable side steps engage outward when the doors are unlocked by the FOB, OR, when you approach to unlock. They come out at the same time the door handles pop out.
You can program them to stay out for accessing the roof (though I don't know if this gets overridden when you drive). Also, when off-roading in modes, it will stay tucked away under certain modes.
I've never had deployable steps, but ended up with them accidentally on my current car, and I will say after a little time with them, I greatly enjoy them and wouldn't go back to not having them. First, it's more comfortable to get in and out of. Second, the access height is very haphazard in when it activates and when it doesn't, so you never really know how far the ground is away from you when you're getting out in dark areas. The deployable steps let you keep the car in standard height all the time.

Thanks for the info, I just ordered the deployable steps from ebay and the OEM controller online. Going to have my mechanic install them once they arrive. Do I need the dealer to program the steps to work when handles are in/out or will it just work once they install the OEM controller?

They need to be programmed to work with the OEM controller. They will work with the aftermarket controller, as described, but the car will need to be coded to accept the OEM controller. Also, installing the aftermarket sidesteps took less than two hours without a lift… very easy install

Morning ! I am on my 7th RR , my 23 530 came with them so I spent a year with them and the convenience was not worth the issues. Main one was when you open the door to get in, if you hit the step before it fully deploys out, which happens a lot, it will retract with your foot on it. Needless to say i almost had flat foot multiple times so it was a danger. RR dealer here tried to fix it and went through it all . No fix. My 24 530 I didn't get them and it is flawless .

In the Topix description for installing the deployable steps and controller, it says on step 8: "Use the JLR approved diagnostic equipment to navigate to 'Diagnostics' section and follow the steps below. "
I'm considering installing Original OEM deployable steps and controller myself, but will of course need someone to add the deployable steps using the Diagnostic tool. Is it only the LR dealers that can do this, or any workshops?

Have you seen any times when the passenger step doesn’t deploy but the drivers side does?
This is really p!ss!ng me off as this was to help my wife get into the vehicle and its the passenger side that doesn’t deploy
I occasionally see an “Obstruction Message” which they aren’t
