EV's are great for daily commutes where one can plug it in at home. I personally do not like public charging stations, and I would most definitely not plan any trip with an EV where I have to stop and let my car charge. I have heard and read too many stories where public charging stations were down, with owners having to tow their vehicles to a working public charging station. Perhaps fast charging technology will evolve, and you can charge your car as fast as filling up your gas tank. That is the time I will personally consider a full EV vehicle.
EV are smoother and quicker than most ICE vehicles. My P550e with its 50 miles range serves me well for my daily commutes. I have a charger at home and one at work, and I can take long trips in the P550e and not worry about public charging stations.

187/55*100=340 miles (547 km).

Range increases from normal when it's hot (UAE). So that would probably my rather imaginary 300 miles (max 240 real life miles, max 150 winter miles). That's more or less 3x more than RR PHEVs are delivering. And we were all expecting battery to be 3x larger. So no magic. More or less 3x of RR PHEV range. Good for city, no use for longer trips.

But if they made some magic with battery capacity or weight and surprise us with a really good range - it would be great. 😉

JLR is one of the few companies that hasn't lied about their battery range on the plug-in hybrids. If they can do a ~400 mile EV, that will be fantastic. Lucid Gravity is promising that sort of range (and the Lucid Air real world mileage more or less matches their advertisement), so this is definitely possible. The key is to get ~3.5 Miles per KHW with efficient drive motors, aggressive regen, drag optimization etc.

Any info on charging rate and charging profile?

Fair point on range. Here is the relevant grab from the video, assuming that 55% battery remains the range is 340. That is not very exciting.

On the subject of truth: I'm routinely getting 50-52 miles with a fully charged battery in city driving and based on the forum feedback several others are also seeing an actual 50 miles of range on the 550e. That's pretty honest as far as EVs go.

There's a Car and Driver article on real world range vs promised range of EVs and it shows that only BMW and the Porsche Taycan/Audi Etron GT had more actual range (the VAG cars because they had a 2 speed gearbox and shifted to a higher gear at highway speeds). Biggest liars? Tesla and Rivian - no surprise here. Lucid, Audi were close to their promised range. It's an interesting article.

I think 340 miles would be excellent for an EV the size and weight of the Range Rover. I know EV buyers love range but if you are driving more than 340 miles straight on a regular basis then an EV is not the right vehicle to get currently.

Not withstanding the taxation issue mainly in Europe, and taking into account the depreciation rate of EV vehicles in general, does it really make sense to buy a pure EV versus leasing one?

In the US it makes sense to lease an EV to get the $7500 regardless of income, price of car, or country of origin. Also it protects one from the uncertain but vast depreciation for EVs. The lease residual value for my $105k sticker iX is $55,000, a value which was reached during the first year of leasing.

I would never purchase an EV but I bet a Range Rover EV lease will easily be $2500 plus a month and that’s nuts to me. I think the electric G580 leases for over $3000 a month.

Yea for sure RR ev lease will be around 2500 which is why I am curious how many they will sell in the US

JLR has just released a longer film from the test of the EV in Dubai: Link
A picture from that can indicate 340 miles (550km) range if we assume that the indicator shows 55% remaining battery:

Looks fantastic, look forward to testdriving it. Have a Range Rover Electric on pre-order - if any good, I will buy one, if not, it will be a Mercedes G580 EQ.

This is exactly why I switched back from an EV to a plug in hybrid. The limited range and lack of charging stations made my EV suitable only for in-town driving.

J1772 public charging Infrastructure sucks. There’s very few, many don’t work, there’s a mishmash of payment systems, and in the end the cost of electricity is essentially the same or more as buying gas.

Love your content, your YT video is one that made me want an RR Full-Size so bad.
