2023 L461 Excessively Loud Climate Blower

Picked up my RRS P400 SE R-Dynamic today. When setting climate control on Auto and Sync, at a comfortable 70°, the blower is exceptionally loud. Drove car for an hour with interior at operating temp, and the blower noise never lessened. It was so annoying, had to turn off the climate. Literally was getting a headache from the constant droning noise. Can even hear it over the radio at comfortable listening level. Anyone else experiencing this?

On “auto” the system may use (without indicating) the uppermost vents under the windshield and / or recirculation. Individually, these are the two biggest contributors to HVAC noise after full fan speed.

Now I noticed in Range Rovers, unlike most cars, dash “defrost” vents and recirc are NOT mutually exclusive, they can actually be used TOGETHER. This is a recipe for absolute cacophony!

Combine this with (oh no, there’s more!) tendency for “Auto” to BLAST the blower at first to move the temperature down to 70 as quickly as possible.

To me, this all is easily explainable, and a result of not one, but three to four features KNOWN for making extra noise operating at once.

The HVAC in our RRS hasn’t been noisy at all during the winter (Boston). It’s been very quiet overall. We use the Auto setting, though I did note that unlike other HVAC Auto settings, this allowed separate fan control whether or not Auto was selected. I don’t recall my exact setting, but it’s been completely unnoticeable for us.

Thank you both for replying. @McGriddle, you hit the nail on the head! I discovered the fan control despite the HVAC being in Auto. Pull up on one of the 2 rotary control knobs, and adjust the fan for the Auto. Just never had any vehicle that Auto still allowed for separate fan-speed adjustment. So, unbeknownst to me, the fan was at max the whole time, causing the constant loud noise of the blower. Problem solved! Even in my Velar, you could set Low, Balanced, or High air flow output in the settings. But if you adjusted the fan while in Auto-mode, then Auto-mode would turn off. And interestingly, the car’s manual does not explain this feature in the 2023 RRS. You have to stumble across it…..or hope for an answer in a forum! Thanks again!!

Glad it worked for you, @L461! Yes, it's definitely an interesting quirk to the system that I didn't expect, either. I figured it out when it seemed like even though we selected Auto, that the blower wasn't blowing high enough and low and behold, it's adjustable separately. It's our first RRS, though, so maybe others can chime in if this was always a thing.

The un-"Auto-ness" of the Auto fans still puzzles me. Love more customizability but also want Auto to just be that, as opposed to a constant loud level when setting above 2 or so.

They say this:

AUTO mode: Touch to select the fully automatic mode.

Then say this:

Fan speed indicator: Touch each bar to adjust airflow. When the fan speed is in manual mode there are seven manual airflow levels. When the fan speed is in AUTO mode there are five levels of auto airflow intensity
