Hi all. This is my first Range Rover (SE P400) and I have had it for almost 6 weeks and had 1,138 miles on it when I got my first fault message. The car was parked at my office for about 2 hours. After the welcome chimes, I got the following "Stop Safely Electrical Fault Detected" message, a red battery icon and the red triangle, photo below.

I then turned the car off, then on again and the same message came up again. Then, I turned the car off, got out, locked and armed the car, then unlocked the car again and then started her up. The message and icons went away, and they did not show up again. I had texted my sales guy about it and he said if it comes on again, I can either have it towed to the dealership or drive it there.

Anyone else experience this or something like this? I know these cars have reliability issues, but come on! I was hoping to get at least a year or two before getting errors and issues.

This is the main reason that has me hesitant on buying a new one of these.

There's two related TSBs that I think is related to this issue - mainly the belt starter generator and/or the DC/DC converter (48/12V) failing.

This is the TSB

It also says "Unsold vehicles must be repaired prior to handover of the vehicle for retail sale.". Given yours is new, I'm a bit...annoyed that Range Rover might not have fixed this issue.

I do NOT want to live through this BSG bullsh** again that I had to at Audi.

What model is it? 400 6, 530 8, or a PHEV?

You know your stuff and I know it! (and definitely for the Range Rover!).

I've heard this statement be said a few times on here and it does make me wonder though. The DC DC converter works the same as on our A8L. The BSG charges the 48V battery and the DC DC converter charges the 12V battery (which I believe in the case of the RR is Lithium and not lead acid)

If the issue of the RR is that there are weird gremlins b/c the 12V battery is 'low' SOC wise, then that confuses me. Generally speaking the 48V battery will 'kill itself' to keep the 12V battery charged. So if the 12V battery SOC is low...then that means the battery in it of itself is dead which seems very unlikely for such a new 'vehicle' (save maybe the 2022 ones as they are getting a bit older).

I'm curious what your thoughts are on my theory here?

Oh got it. That sucks. Those have typically been the best (reliability wise) based on what people have posted
yeah that’s why I went with the P400 over the BMW sourced P530. I found a few P530s that would have been perfect, but the BMW sourced engine turned me off.

Take it to the dealer and have it checked out. Tell the dealer to check the battery on the car. Some dealers do not do a full battery charge prior to delivery of the car. If the battery is weak, it can cause all kind of messages.
if it comes back on I will have them check it out. So far it’s been good since I got out, locked & armed the car, and then restarted it.

I love my p530. Mechanic also advised me that the kinks have been worked out since new release and is very reliable.

I wouldn’t jump to conclusions until you’ve had service plug in and scan the codes. Generic message, but could be virtually anything. Take it into your dealer to investigate, even if it doesn’t return, just for peace of mind.

I made it less than 20km before I had a similar fault. Turned out to be one loose connection, in one wiring connector. Service found it by doing a pin drag on the connector where the fault originated and they found one pin out of spec for tightness that was causing an intermittent open circuit fault. They tightened up the offender, and it’s never been an issue since.

I have seat belt light on permanently now, it was intermittent under the warranty 2017 RRS they said wire loose, fixed it, less than 6 months back again, then it’s a fault in the loom then a seatbelt anchorage out of warranty. A casual £ 400 to replace , here we are again,
Oh for the days when we could. fix stuff

Had the same issue on my 2023. Please note that when you get that message the battery is not charging and you will eventually run out of juice. You found the work around that I utilized for close to a year, turn off, lock, wait two minutes, then go back and it would not be there. I then got an update all electronic for the BSG system at the dealer and had been fine since. Let me see if I can find the exact update and info they used on the invoice.

Here is the service bulletin that my vehicle was repaired (software update). It as N846. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10246397-0001.pdf Best of luck.

The reason why I recommend taking it to the dealer is to have a documented paper trail just in case it leads to a buyback. I know it is inconvenient. I hope you never have issues with it.

That is the next step. If it comes back I am definitely doing that. I just went through the buyback process on my prior 2024 GLE 53 AMG Coupe.

I plan on doing the services annually (or about every 10K miles) instead of waiting every 20K+ miles like the car says. I want this car to last a while.
