I originally posted the message below in the new members section a few weeks ago but I thought it was time to introduce myself here in the L322 threads.

"My name is Jon and I've been a proud Jaguar owner for all of my adult life, currently on my 8th XJ, a 2014 5.0 Supercharged which I've had for 5 years now, still running strong at 126K miles or so. I've been a member of the Jaguar Forum under the same username for well over a decade now. I've joined your noble forum today because I've decided to finally get serious about giving the Big Cat a playmate. My wife and I are becoming more and more outdoorsy as we move into middle age, and we'd really love to use a Range Rover for what they're intended. This would be an entirely unnecessary third vehicle for us, and would only be used for inclimate weather, hauling stuff, and weekend fun. I'm trying to decide between a Mark III or a Mark IV, with the 4.2 or 5.0 engines respectively (I haven't yet learned all the model factory codes), as I'm very familiar with both, and I do all my own maintenance and repairs. I'll be reading through these fora trying to learn as much as I can before I come to a decision. I know I could not have been able to keep and maintain my Jags over the years without the immeasurable help of the Jaguar Forum, so I wanted to introduce myself, and thank you in advance for granting me access to the wealth of information here."

Well, I am now the proud owner of an 07 with the supercharged 4.2, Java black with black leather and cherry wood interior. It's got around 115K miles and pretty good service records. It's a bit of a diamond in the rough but I've spent the last week sprucing it up and getting some maintenance and odds & ends squared away.

Here's what I've done so far:
  • The headlights were heavily oxidised so I cleaned them up with sandpaper and Meguiar's restoration kit. Once I did that, I realised that the projector lenses themselves inside were all fogged up. So I unhappily decided to take apart the housing, clean the lenses as best I could, then glue it all back together. Big pain in the rear but I had to do it.
  • I replaced all the headlight bulbs with LEDs except for the signal blinkers.
  • I replaced the fog light assemblies with new aftermarket units with LEDs
  • I used Meguiar's Black Trim Restorer to clean up the exterior pillars, which were looking VERY tired. They almost look new now.
  • Cleaned the MAF sensor
  • Changed the front and rear diff & transfer case fluids
  • AC was not cooling, so I evacuated the system completely and refilled. We'll see how long that lasts.
  • cleaned and conditioned the interior with Lexol
  • repaired the tabs on the grille and replaced the Land Rover badge

Things left on the to-do list:
-supercharger oil
-supercharger coolant pump upgrade
-Caldoofy intake tube
-transmission fluid change with mechatronic sleeve and bridge seal replacement
-might need to replace the front "upper" control arms, I can't quite tell the condition of the bushings
-replace the upper tailgate lock motor as its doing the 3 clicks and WD-40 hasn't helped
-replace the center console struts
-replace the non-functional reverse camera
-repaint the Brembo calipers
-various other little upgrades or mods here and there

Tomorrow morning I'll be going to Discount Tire to have a set of Toyo Open County AT3s in size 255/55/20 mounted, so that should be fun.

Anyways, glad to be here and I'm looking to getting to know everyone.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the truck has a Westminster badge on the rear where the Supercharged badge should be. So far as I know, there was no Westminster model made in 07, so someone as some point in the past decided to have some fun with it. I haven't decided if I'll leave it or not yet.

It was a little confusing at first, especially since I just switched over to the RR forum from the Jaguar forum myself...
Many say that the 06 - 09 are the most durable, reliable Range Rovers there are, which might beg the question "were they really Range Rovers?
I've used the Sylvania headlight polishing kit on my wife's 2012 XJ, and will use it on my 2012 RR when it needs it. I'm really surprised that those kits work as well as they do (at least the Sylvania that I can attest to 1st hand).
You'll find you have many kindred souls here with the 06-09 iteration, and of course some of the body and other parts are common back to the '03 and some up through the 2012.

Looks like I screwed something up in the passenger side headlight assembly. I'm suddenly getting the "lazy eye" with AFS warning light. B1D69 = Right Headlamp swiveling feedback sensor circuit. Odd thing is that it rectified itself after three attempts to clear the fault with my icarsoft last night. Both lights did their dance and pointed straight ahead, no fault light. When I restarted the truck this morning, the lazy eye and fault are back.

Welcome to the site. I used a cheap syringe 6 pack kit from Walmart ( Halloween decoration) and used a pce of chainsaw fuel line1/8th attached to end of syringe to evacuate the s charger oil and replenish the same way with a second syringe. 2 small bottles of gm supercharger oil from gm dealer. A bit awkward but can be done . I put a rag down in first so I would not lose the drain plug. Now I have to change a fuel injector so not looking fwd to pulling the supercharger.

I ordered a kit off ebay that I've used before that comes with the syringe and the two bottles, so we'll be getting on that sometime this week. Thankfully, the fill port is in an easily accessible place on the 4.2s unlike on the 5.0s.

I just replaced the upper tailgate motor, CWC500140. Brand new part off ebay. It's always scary prying plastic panels and tabs apart, and I always seem to break some part of it but thankfully it was nothing major, and everything went back together well.

Just did the supercharger oil. Man, that old stuff was foul.

I went back to Discount Tires this morning because I keep getting an intermittent "Check All Tyre Pressures" warning. They had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned that they should have a system reset tool or something like that. He did scan each wheel sensor and they checked out fine, so maybe I'll unplug/plug back in the TPS module in the boot, and see what that does. That worked for me when I had a parking brake fault on my old Jaguar X350.

Regarding post #6 above, I opened the back of the passenger side light and saw that the insulation had crumbled off some of the wires leading to the motor assembly. There was no way to reach them with heatshrink or regular electrical tape, so I dipped a small paintbrush into some liquid electrical tape, and covered everything I could reach with it. I cleared the code after refitting the assembly, both lights did their dance, and everything seems ok so far.

I replaced the two center console struts (bought from Atlantic British) yesterday. Huge difference from the old worn out ones. The console lids now lift themselves up nicely and no more slamming shut. I also took the opportunity to remove the physical phone hookup from the lower lid, removed that tray section completely, and put a wireless charging mat in its place. The setup still needs some polishing (namely finding a way to keep the phone from sliding off the mat while turning/cornering) but I'm pleased with it so far.

Strangely, the lower tailgate unlatching motor started to act up after I replaced the upper liftgate motor the other day. It had never done that before. Suddenly today, it won't work at all, and the lower tailgate can only be opened via the emergency side latches. I removed the inner paneling, and all the wires and connections seem fine, and the fuse is good. Time for more research.

This morning, I decided to replace the relay on a hunch and it worked. Got a new relay from the local Ford dealership. Great!

A few hours later, I go to put the lower tailgate paneling back together. It unlocks and opens perfectly. I put it all back together, close it, then try to open it again and its dead once more. No sound at all, just silence when pressing the button, same as before.

EDIT: I went back about 10 mins later to tidy up some more, and the lower tailgate button worked 5 times in a row (I didn't keep going until it failed). What could be causing such intermittent issues?

I agree ground likely. I have had baffling faults correct after replacing ground straps up front. There is a ground in the tailgate that gets rain ingress. Incidentally pulling the deck spoiler and cleaning all connections will probably restore functionality to reverse camera. Do a YouTube search. Clean and dielectric grease

Thank you for the ground suggestion. I'll look into that.

Yesterday, I decided to remove and clean the throttle body, which wasn't as dirty as I thought it would be. Today I planned to clean the MAP sensor in the throttle housing and the IAT (or MAPT, I guess, or vice versa) on the passenger side intake. Well, the MAP sensor broke during removal, leaving the barrel/probe section embedded in the throttle housing. Then the electrical connector absolutely would not come off, until the locking tab broke and one of the wires pulled right out of it. I carefully punched the broken barrel/probe free and turned my attention to the IAT sensor on the intake. Thankfully, that came free without issue. I tried to clean it with MAF cleaner but it seems the oil residue traveling through the intake has been baked on, same with the MAP. So it looks like the Rover will be stuck in the garage longer than I had anticipated.

It turns out that the local Houston JLR dealership is just as unhelpful as the ones back in Los Angeles were, so I've ordered the two sensors, the throttle body gasket, and a new electrical connector from various sources online.

Which Houston JLR location? The one in Spring?
I’ve heard things about some of the others.
All though, I have been going to British Unlimited for issues beyond my capabilities.

Not as keen on working on my own vehicle anymore. At least not since my tools were all stolen and I now live in a restricted neighborhood that doesn’t want to see cars being worked on in driveways.

Yes, the one in Spring. But the parts guy said none of the dealerships in the area carried any of the items I needed. He suggested checking with Atlantic British.

Thanks for referring British Unlimited. Seems they're not too far from me. Good to know.

I'm sorry to hear about your tools being stolen. Were they taken from your home garage??

For the record, here are the parts numbers:
-Throttle Body Gasket - 4536886
-MAP Sensor on the throttle housing - LR076019
-MAP Sensor on the passenger side intake manifold - PMM500080
-MAP Sensor Connector (Standard Motor Products S2033 - no actual JLR OEM part that I could find)
