I took my RR to the local specialists today for a mini-serivice (oil and filter change) and to try to find out why it ran so rough on petrol (misfiring and backfiring).

Runs sweet as can be on LPG!

He hooked up his computer and said it was a knackered knock sensor.

Have any of you lot had such problems and do you REALLY think a knock sensor would cause this???

Oh, he also said all three blend motors were knackered . Happy days.

Well, I don't think so, The knock sensors retards the ignition when it senses "pinging, knock", thats all. One of mine broke some months ago, went disconected for like a week with no problem.
Must be something else, any codes set-in?

Thanks very much for your reply.

I didn't think that could cause such a big problem. You being able to run with it/them disconnected pretty much rules that out as the problem.

The only stored code on the engine ECU is the one for knock sensors - strange.

Oh well, the search continues.

Strange.

Thats what the guy who plugged the reader in said. Mind you he also looked under the bonnet and noticed a jubilee clip on the heatshield on the right bank of cylinders and remarked upon it. He mentioned knock sensors after that.
