My current OME has no acoustic inner layer , i can see distortions and the heat wires a very visible... pilkingtton glass too... go figure... thats why im going for a later model as i think the first 05 got a bad deal on the glass...I cannot agree move. The OME part is proven to match perfectly in every way. I’m on my third OME windshield due to road trash when on highways. I do understand how original manufacturers parts cost more but you won’t deal with sunlight refraction and increase road noise when traveling on highways.
what about the acoustic inner layer..? does that glass have that? and the green tint for u.v protection? that too? made in the u.k or china?pilkington does have a factroy in china...Be careful there are so many good looking glasses that aren’t the real deal...there is only one way to tell if they are.. by interpolating the numbers and symbols stamped at the bottom right corner of the glass. i have an OEM glass and it is horrible, i hear all the trucks and cars as it does not have the sound shield in it , it does have the tint the heating and rain sensor but the noise... so i found one with the full package... putting it in next week.Hey this glass company in the Northwest has a half price sale. I am getting a new front window for my 2007 RR HSE supercharged for 550 including tax and install Yes heated and rain sensor! Our local glass repair shops provide auto glass repair, windshield replacement & glass repair in Portland ,Beaverton, Milwaukie, Seattle, Salem & Vancouver.www.msglassoutlet.com
I have been researching windshields as i feel mine has done a great job but is due for replacement.(large crack on passenger side do to highway debris)
My windshild is the original pilkington glass with the land rover logo on it. It is heated , has the rain sensors and the nice green tint.
Dealer wants $1100 just to buy it then another $300 to install.(Thugs)
So i started looking round and where is what i have found.
Pilkington used to make durable and fantastic glass ten years ago but no longer do so especially after getting aquired by AFG, A Japanese company.
they now no longer make the glass for landrover and the quality has changed. todays glass is thinner and thus lighter but still durable
Then i stumbled upon an company i had never heard of called FYG . from what i gather they make their own glass and seem to be generating a rather good reputation in the subaru and bmw world of cars , I got in touch with them and theiy do make a glass for the l322 at less than half the cost of the dealer($600) and that number includes installation and a lifetime warranty.
Their glass comes with everything the dealers has except the land rover logo.
So i asked them about the quality of the glass and the gentlamn was happy to explain to me why their glass was good. He xplained that ten years ago the glass had to be thicker to compensate for durability ut in todays times there are better quality product hat make glass therefore thickness is no longer neccesary to justify durability.i agreed with that theory in part because i see the parallels of that idiology on ither technical fieds i work in.
He also included a very important point that sold me on the FYG aftermarket option.
While the OEM seem to be the best option due to its provenance and the land rover logo the FYG glass comes with a layer of acoustic sound barrier in between the glass thus reducing highway/engine nose by approximately 3 decibels.
The OEM brand does NOT ome with an acoustic sound shield, costs twice as much and is built with a different standard to hat they had ten years ago. in other words OEM is not a better glass from a hardware perspective , all they have is the pilkington name and a land rover logo from back in the day , everything else has changed.
So i decided to go with FYG glass , included for $600 is
Green U.V protective tint
2 year warranty on glass from time of install plus lifetime warranty on defects/distortion etc.
Very reasonable price with labor cost included.
The fitment was determined using my VIN# so that confirms correct fitting to vehicle.
I hope this helps others in their research.. carfeul with those dealerships out there...
NB: your windsheild does not have the acoustic layer if you do not see on it-

the ear sign
My OEM windsheild does not have ANY of the above signs so i know it is not sound proof.
Couldn’t you see the wires in your original RR? I can see mine. I’ve learned to ignore it.Yes, I'm happy with it. Under some lighting conditions I can just make out the heating wires but they aren't distracting. From Google searches, I suspect the screen is of Chinese manufacture. It is labelled XYG but I cant see any acoustic glass symbol but I'm not sure what I should be looking for.. Price ex-factory in China varies from US$18-$35 per screen in lots of 50.
OK just make sure youget one with the acoustic inner layer among all the other bells and whistles...Stay with the Factory windshield. One of the items to be corrected by the auto dealership I purchased my car from last year was a crack in the windshield and the dealer said they would replace it., They used an XYG which turned out to be a real piece of junk. I will be changing back over to LR.
yes sir i bought it but havent installed it yet.. logistics issues .. picking it up and scheduling an installer.. dint like the setup at the place i bought it , they seemed to have different prices for different people so i opted not to have it installed by them...will have it done before february 10th as i have a road trip to DCGet that new glass yet?

Finally, very happy for you @pontoonFinally got the new windsheild installed it has:
“Acousic” inner layer
It is an OEM pilkington glass set me back $850 but looks and IS awesome , no distortions , the heating elements are visible but no more than the previous one i had.
The best part is the noise reduction in the cabin.. AWESOME! , no wind noise not jake brakes , no road noice. i can hear myself breathing...
For the record i have a 2005 but if you want a good glass DO not opt for the recomended part number for a 2005 , Got with the part Nubmer for a 2007 ful size , they built a better winsheild and never changed the art number but the windshields fit. i.e a 2007 full size winshield will fit a 2005 range rover.
If you order the glass for a 2005 as per the recomended part number that glass will not come with the acoustic inner layer you you will be getting an inferior glass.
Hope the helps , photos below
Thank you , the research was well worth it... a lot of misleading information out there , just like wheels you can interchange the wind sheilds but only up to a certain year , i believe 03 up to 07 models glass and wheels can be interchanged regardless of part numbers.
Yes.. got the new glass , finally in check out the pics below...yes sir i bought it but havent installed it yet.. logistics issues .. picking it up and scheduling an installer.. dint like the setup at the place i bought it , they seemed to have different prices for different people so i opted not to have it installed by them...will have it done before february 10th as i have a road trip to DC
Too Much things are interchangeable my friend did interior update to his 2006 from a 2012 autobiographyThank you , the research was well worth it... a lot of misleading information out there , just like wheels you can interchange the wind sheilds but only up to a certain year , i believe 03 up to 07 models glass and wheels can be interchanged regardless of part numbers.
I gnored the selection by VIN and the result was a top notch glass that is supposed to be in an 07 model installed in an 05.
