Looking at several used Rovers and some have factory side steps and/or factory brush guard installed. I would be removing those, but I'm concerned about wear marks on front bumper or lower side body panels where they contacted these accessories. Anyone have experience removing these and know if they do, in fact, leave marks or scratches?

Both. Brush guard has holes in the bumper, and side steps(only the ones with mudflaps) have holes in the rear lower portion of the front fender.

Agreed, but that lower part of the front fender is a painted plastic snap/bolt on part. If you insist, they're easy enough to replace, but then you're into painting, matching colour etc...
