Dear Community Members,

We are excited to announce that we are live on our new forum platform! We have been working hard over the past few months with a leading design and product firm to deliver a cleaner, faster and more engaging experience for you. We have leveraged XenForo tools and features but added layers of modern design and technology to make the site run faster, smoother and more reliably. All of the valuable content within the community is still here, even though the layout may look different.

A consistent experience across all devices
The site is optimized for all screen sizes, including mobile. All features are available and ready to use on all devices.

Speed and reliability are key
No one should have to wait for information. This site has been built to be much faster and more reliable, period.

Easy to use and navigate
We have made the design clean and simple to focus on the areas the community uses the most and removed clutter.

We have also introduced a number of new and updated features:

New Homepage Experience
Your home page now features the most active forums, trending discussions, featured showcases, and top contributing members. This will help keep you up to date on what’s happening in your community and eventually become a very personalized experience for our members with all the great content you love surfaced effortlessly for you.

Search
We have introduced new search algorithms, powered by an industry-leading AI platform, that will help you find information faster. We plan to roll out new features to continue improving search, and to power many additional areas of the forum.
Due to the volume of content our search platform may take some time to complete indexing. During this process, you may see a limited number of posts until indexing has been completed. We appreciate your patience.

Popular and New Posts
We have made it easy to navigate directly to the Popular (previously Active Topics) Posts. You can find the Popular section, which includes “New Posts”, by clicking on the trending up arrow in the navigation. Always be up to date!

Bookmarks
Now you can bookmark your favorite discussions! Bookmarks are a handy way to remember and easily find great content or stuff you want to read later.

Following
Following a thread is a great way to stay up-to-date on the topic, and receive alerts or emails when there are new replies. Thread subscriptions and watched threads are now called “Followed”. Your followed threads can be accessed by clicking on your user avatar, and clicking “Following”. We have migrated all of your existing subscriptions into the new platform.

Show off your own collection.
We have introduced “My Showcase” for you to show-off images of your own vehicles, modifications or road trips to the rest of the community and we have migrated in the existing data from our vBulletin Garages. This is your opportunity to upload often and share your passion! Visit Showcase.

Dark Mode

We have introduced Dark Mode. One of our favorite features allows you to access the site with a power-saving, and easier on the eyes dark mode. You can access it through the right-hand drop-down menu.

We also wanted to make it easier for new users to understand the lingo of forums. We have cleaned up various language to more commonly recognized phrases including:

Forum Listing – the forum index, or forum home, is now known as the Forum Listing page. It can be found in the drop-down menu with the 3 dots.

Following - Thread subscriptions, and Watched are now known as Following

Conversations – Private Messages or PMs are now conversations and can be accessed from the user avatar drop-down in the main navigation

Showcase – Showcase is designed for users to "showcase" items/projects through the use of uploaded images, text descriptions and custom content categories. It’s a way to visually and textually provide detailed information on content you wish to share. The showcase would be similar to a catalog, whereas gallery would be like a photo album. Can be accessed from the drop-down menu with the 3 dots

Popular – is the new name for Active Topics. You can also directly navigate to New Posts / Today’s Posts from this button

Account Settings – is the new name for UserCP. The account settings can be found by clicking on your avatar in the top right navigation

Bookmarks – a great place to store valuable content that you may want to reference later.

These are just a few of the great new functions and features to try on the site. Take a tour and look around! If you have any questions, please check out the HELP section for some quick FAQs about the new platform, https://www.rangerovers.net/help/

Please let us know what you think about the new experience, your feedback is important to us.

Thank you all for your support during this amazing journey!

Please don't be afraid to test out things to see how they display on the site.

Images look beautiful. (I took this one in downtown San Antonio.)

You can easily share videos just by adding the share URL and they display really nice.

Gif links from sites like giphy.com will display just by adding the gif URL.

I am also a huge fan of being able to bookmark a thread to have easy access to come back to it later. What features have you found that you like so far? :)

I will be here to answer questions and to help you navigate, as needed.

How To Find New Posts & Use Filters
From the navigation, near the upper right-hand corner, click on the upward pointing arrow and then select “New Posts” from the drop down menu.

This will open a new page of new posts for you. You can also choose to set special filters or mark all posts read on that same page.

Can I request one change? Although I have read one comment that it is better on mobile, although on the rare occassions I loooked at the old site on mobile, it looked fine to me, can we have the option to make it look like a forum again and not a social media site? The text size on a laptop is huge so rather than being able to see 20 or so threads on one screen, now you need to scroll up and down to see more than half that.

Is it only me, or with the update forum, have we lost the ability to search for information on old threads? I have tried to run a couple of searches and am limited to information posted in the last day or since the new forum style came online.

Thoughts?

Aloha all,
It has been great contributing a bit to, and learning a LOT from this forum.
RR.net has made it possible for me to actually own and personally care for and maintain 4 P-38s over the last decade.
Between the knowledgeable folks all over the planet and the home page, with it's maintenance information and carefully amassed trove of tips, tricks and repair shortcuts represented 1000's of man hours spent fettling with these trucks and it is a crying shame that it now seems to have been pitched out
with this "New and Improved" version of the site.
Had I known this kind of criminal purge was coming, I would have copied all of it somewhere for future use!
I do not participate in any form of "social media" this forum, as it had no similarities to any of that junk was fine...........Until yesterday!
REALLY?????? You earn points for posting. and get ranked by number of posts like it's some sort of competition?????? Give me a break!
That has not been what rr.net is about. It has been about helping others when possible, and reaching out for help and advice when needed.
I suppose someone somewhere with a calculator decided this could be some sort of profit center, and unleashed some elementary
school web hack to come up with this new "Fun" web design.
Sorry, It does not work......Nor, for that matter, does "Search" as Toadie has said a whole lot of times "Search is your friend" Seems the new kid (Who cannot even spell Range Rover) decided that no one would really want to mend a fuse box, or read a thoughtful discussion on the proper oil for a P-38.
Toss it out! they said! Your web hack would not know a Range Rover if it ran him over!
I will look in from time to time to see if saner minds prevail....In the meantime, I am heading to the Pub for some thoughtful discussion about P-38s
As they say in Hawaii: A hui hou kakau! (look it up)
Cheers,
Tom

Unless you fix the search quickly, like straight away, reinstate people's bookmarked help threads (so it actually takes you to the thread, as it did in the past and not the generic home page, appears that all the bookmarks are now useless and you can't find the threads because the search doesn't work) and stop trying to make it a social media platform as opposed to the really useful help platform it was, then I think you will be losing a lot of your members who have been on this forum for years.

You aren't the only game in town. You were the best, but now, pretty much useless.

Oh, and Ranger Rover????? Really? Who wrote the introduction? Obviously not someone with any idea what the forum is about. By the way, where is the Land Rover page (seems we now have one, according to the introduction).

So you want feedback, you're going to get some

The new appearance is vomit inducing. It is supposed to be a forum not a social media site.

Where have the site home pages gone, how do we access them now? The forum was just a small part of an extremely useful website, now the forum has been castrated, there's virtually nothing left here for anyone that isn't catered for by any number or other forums (that are far easier to read and navigate).

Why does the banner photo at the top of the page show 6 cars, only 3 of which are catered for by the forums. The other three are Land Rovers and not Range Rovers.

Whoever wrote the introduction needs to do a little research on what this forum is about. There is no such thing as a RangeR Rover, the Range Rover Sport is a model and catered for but sport isn't, the SDV6 is an engine that may or may not be fitted to some models (or does this entry only refer to one model, the Range Rover Sport TDV6?), Autobiography and HSE are trim levels, Evoque is a model and catered for (so whoever wrote it got one right) and this forum is RangeRovers.net and not Land Rovers.net.

So there's your feedback, none of it good. This forum will get lots of new visitors but only from people coming to have a look to see if it really is as bad as the comments on other forums have said it is. Rangerovers.net has become a laughing stock.......

I logged on to find tire options for P38s. After 1/2 hour of searching, no specific results for OEM wheels were found. They were easily found before. I am very very disappointed. Really too bad! I'm off!

Add my support. The data that is there is still there I believe just not where you would expect a simple google search yesterday directed me to this website in its new format for the answer yet searching on this site came back with no results

If you can no longer search for previous posts that makes the site much less useful. I will have to look elsewhere for help.

Sad to say I have seen this happen a few times. My local LR club was having forum issues several years ago. They elected a new president that decided the full collective history of the club was not valued or needed and started over. They binned all of the trail info, pics, history of users, repair info and a treasure trove of everything. We lost our connection to Rover lovers that are no longer with us. It was all very sad. Needless to say, I have not been back, joined or been to a meeting in 4 years. Their site usage is way down and overall the club is in decline now.

I can do the same here too...

The lack of communication is bothering too. I could tell the site was having issues, some strange things were happening. But at least tell people. Maybe even keep the old site up and the new at the same time and blend old and new. The DWeb site went through this a while ago and everything was communicated and they worked very hard to fix issues, keep searches and historical info and generally make it a much better experience.

I have asked questions of this moderator crew for years and never ever got an answer. They just sit there and ignore and wield the all powerful hammer.

Rather than ask here, where all you'll get are the mods on this forum and even RRTH seems to be as upset as the rest of us, they actually started a thread proudly announcing the 'upgrades' and asking for feedback.

It's here, https://www.rangerovers.net/threads/we-are-now-live-community-feedback.338022/ they want feedback, give them some. The new site stinks (and that's being polite so I don't get accused of profanity).......

Oh yes, and another one while I think about it. Why does it no longer give the posters location under his name? Someone asking a question about where is the best place to buy something is going require a different answer depending on what country he is in. Equally, US and UK spec cars are different (and not just the US ones having the steering wheel on the wrong side) so again, someone talking about drivers side will be diffrent dependng on where they are.

and why are signatures now limited to 2 lines?
