I have a Range Rover Sport, it has been raining really heavily, i opened the bootlid and water started pouring out like a tap through the boot lock mechanism and the power boot lid button, any ideas what the cause could be as i am really worried of getting a electrical fault.

I have a 2014 RRS and early last fall I had a water leak in the rear of the vehicle with water dripping out of the D pillar into the cargo area. Not the same symptoms as your leak BUT the cause of my leak could be the same as your problem.

After looking very closely and taking some of the interior trim apart, I found the leak. Water was bypassing the rubber grommets where the wire harness for the boot enters the vehicle. You can see the grommets when you open the boot... they look like black rubber corrugated hoses. Those rubber tubes have grommets at both ends: one entering the ceiling of the vehicle and one entering the top of the boot lid. In my case the rubber grommets were loose in the sheet metal holes of the roof. Its possible that you have the same problem but at the end of the tubes where they enter the boot lid.

I suggest you (or your body shop) look at all the "holes" in the boot lid starting with that wire harness.

Some silicone caulk completely fixed my problem, so the repair was very quick, permanent and easy.

Bought a 2015 Sport Autobiography in August 2020, just started happening to me after the downpours of the last few days. Water pouring from the rear lock and near the boot closure button. Did you get to the bottom of why or get a solution from Land Rover??

Not sure what year your rig is but I have a 2015 and had a similar water leak from the bootlid. There's a TB for that where the wiring harness on the top that connects from the car to the bootlid was installed incorrectly and interfering with the gasket sealing and letting water in.

I had the dealer apply the fix and haven't had any water issues since. If I recall, it didn't look that hard to fix it yourself. I think you just need to drill a hole for an additional clip to hold the harness out of the way when it closes. Sorry I can't recall what the TB number is but they can look it up. Just go to the dealer and let them know you have water leaking from the bootlid.
