Hi,

I recently acquired a 2006 Range Rover HSE.

I've been reading through the posts here and around the 'net and am getting more confused by the minute.

I'd like to be able to do the simple things in life like reset codes, maintenance intervals and the like.

I'd also like to be able to program the customizable features in the truck.

As one could see from my signature line, we also have a '97 Aston DB7 Volante and I'd like anything that we buy to be useful for that if possible.

I can't figure out what to do.

HELP!!!

Colin,

About 10 years ago, Nate Myrvhold, then CTO of Microsoft, gave a speech entitled Bills' Law.

He was referring to two men name Bill, one name Bill Gates, one named Bill Joy who was the CTO of SUN Computer.

The law is simple. It costs 10 million to develop a product. Bill Joy decided to sell a few hundred thousand at 1,000 and make some money. Bill Gates decided to sell a few hundred million at 100 and make some real money.

Who won?

As has been noted on this forum, the current BBS pricing model is less than attractive to DIY folks like myself. I would happily pay a few hundred USD for your product as long as I knew I could use on any vehicle I might ever own.

As best as I could ascertain from the BBS WEB site, the price model asks for well over a thousand and then for only one car.

Perhaps one could consider how much bigger the addressable market for the BBS product could be with a different pricing model.

Warmest regards,

Dave

RRtoadhall, I wish I understood what you were recommending that I do.

Unfortunately, they do sell patrol like that to some extent. The market decides the price, hence the insane swings over the past few months. The point I was making to Colin is that the Hawkeye likely would not be on a DIY shopping list and probably would not even have had a go to market business case if there was another option. Now there is a piece of competition that should not have existed.

Second, the Rover would only go to the mainline dealer and should I decide to keep her past the winter I will purchase an extended warranty so it can continue to do so. I'd prefer to pay 10% of my purchase price for a 3 year warranty than 5% of my purchase price for a scanner.

I had an Aston Martin Lagonda for 10 years and it visited the mainline dealer and a specialist only once each. The rest I did myself. The DB7 has not visited the mainline dealer in the 6 months we have it, we are in the middle of the 30K service which would have cost 10% of what we paid for the car to perform at the mainline dealer.

I'm simply offering an observation based upon what I saw in this forum as well as others.

Colin, I don't have a real view on the BBS development costs, but I wonder at what price point would the Hawkeye not be on anyones shopping list.

OTOH, I played with the T4 this evening for a few minutes. It was enlightening.

Correction to my post above, it was the IDS that I was playing with.
