There is a very nice 74k mile 2010 near me. The small dealer doesn't have service records, it was bought at auction. Carfax does not show guide replacement but does say "checked noise" a 37k miles.

Is there any way to easily verify the guides were replaced? I will buy the car if they have been done, but not interested in paying for or doing that job.

Not without taking the front of the engine apart. (and I am assuming you are talking about chain guides vs valve guides). At 74k I would assume "not" replaced yet, unless they tell you otherwise. Is it rattling at start up?

i just replaced the chains, tensioners, guides and VVT sprockets in my 08 SC (jag 4.2) and by taking the valve covers off u can see some of the guides. U may be able to see them also in the 5.0 that i this u have in yours

my old ones looked to be stained brown from heat and oil, the new ones were white. wonder how fast the color changes and if u could use coloration as an indication
