Hi folks,

Our 92 RRC's heads are at the machine shop. It has the early seals, ERC7865, which are just a round sheet of rubber with a hole in them, and only on the intake valve. Only 3 or 4 were still intact.

The head gasket kit I have has the later later type, ERR1782, which look a lot nicer:

The machine shop reports these do not fit over the valve guides, so I looked it up and indeed, the part number for the valve guides changed when the seals changed. So my question is, should I change the valve guides to the later type (can I even do that?), or get some early seals?

And will the guides or seals from something I can buy tomorrow in Tucson work? Like from a Buick?

Thanks all,

James

did you actually see if it fits the valves stems as well as the seats? the updated valves have spring in it to prevent oil from leaking through. it should be ok imo.

Correct. The later valve seals from 1993 - on won't fit the pre-92 heads unless you have the machine shop machine the valve guides, which they should be able to do easily.
