For the second time I have used a trickle charger on my 2010 and ended up with a bad battery? Are these models susceptible to this? Are these models hard on batteries? It’s just three or four years old.
I’m using a name brand “Battery Tender” connected directly to the battery.
I’ve used these chargers other cars without issue.
That's a strange one. My 2010 L322 spends most of its time in my garage plugged into a trickle charger, it's been like that for the past 18 months and to date I have had no issues what so ever. I use a Banner trickle chargers.
Does the car suffer at all with voltage drain when not connected?
I use a CTek which will shut off voltage when the battery is fully charged. Some chargers put out a continuous 2 amps regardless of battery condition which can over charge it and boil the fluid out. It also has a a "recondition" mode that's supposed to help batteries last longer.
FWIW, the official JLR trickle charger is a CTEK unit and I can confirm that cycles to a reconditioning mode when the battery is full.
