My LR3 did not have this - there seems to be a huge hard bump stop bolted to the transfer case - does anyone know it's intended function?

Thanks.

It’s a torsional vibration damper. It counteracts a powertrain torsion mode where the transfer box ‘twists’ on the rear of the transmission, causing a booming noise or vibration through the floor pan or front seat.
