Traction Control, Window Set, Service Engine Soon, multiple messages Range Rover 2000

I have a Range Rover 2000 SE. Just had heads redone as result of blown head gasket. Just go car back. Multiple error messages on screen including Traction Control, all windows and sunroof not set and Service Engine Soon light. In addition, car does not seem to shift into high gear running at 3000 rpm at 50 miles per hour. I am novice and baffled. Thanks for the help. Love the truck but frustrated.

Hi cycle all the windows and sunroof, and the messages will be gone. It`s due to the battery been disconnected. TC and check engine needs to be checked / reset with diagnostic.

Transmission, first of all check oil level iaw. Rave manual.

Best regards Brage

What is hi cycle mean. Stupid huh?
Re: Traction Control, Window Set, Service Engine Soon, multiple messages Range Rover

Press the button to move a window all the way down, hold the button for 1 second, then raise it all the way up. The dash will beep at you and it will say window set. Do this for all windows and the sunroof. TC light on and only using 3rd gear means that the transmission has gone into limp home mode for some reason. If the heads have been off there is a connector behind the LH head (as seen from sitting in the car) that connects the gearbox to the rest of the electronics. If that has been damaged or not reconnected, that would cause that. No idea on the service engine soon message as UK cars don't have it. Maybe it has decided it is time for a service?

In resetting your Sunroof, you must open and close it both ways, sliding it back as well as tilting it.

If you have an owner's manual, the messages on the screen are covered there.

Hi... as in Hello and welcome, cycle meaning push the window down button, until window is all the way down, then push the up button til window is all the way up again. Thats the window going one full cycle. repeat on all windows and sunroof.

The original poster has a 2000 P38 and therefore one significant difference with the GEMs is the top view of the engine. On top of the BOSCH engine, there are two 1/4" cables that make a loop (U) from the right (as you are facing the front of the vehicle), routed across the engine, make a U-turn and are terminated at the throttle body. one of these cables is adjusted on the right (cruise control), the other is adjusted at the throttle body connection. If either or both are over tightened, the engine will rev. It will lurch if the brakes are not firmly pressed. When I replaced my head gasket, I had this problem. I would askl the mechanic who did your head gasket work to assure that the linkages have the proper tension.

What does that have to do with the problems he has?
Re: Traction Control, Window Set, Service Engine Soon, multiple messages Range Rover

It has to do with the high rpms. fMy theory is that he is having the same problem that I had after I completed my head gasket replacement. the cables were not p[roperly adjusted. Eventhough I had not changed them, for some reason, they were over-tightened. By adjusting them to the correct tension, idle returned to normal the over-reving was eliminated, and the car was not throttling while I was braking.

Absolutely nothing.

If the OP were reporting high idle and lag in shifting throughout the gears then a hanging throttle cable might be a possibility. In addition there are no "linkages" on P38s or "proper tension" for the cables. The only adjustment is in the throttle cable. You make sure the lever is against the throttle stop and remove any slack in the cable. Nothing more, nothing less and certainly no "proper tension".
Re: Traction Control, Window Set, Service Engine Soon, multiple messages Range Rover

You're uninformed! There are adjustments on both the Throttle cable and the cruise control cable. I know tis is true on the Bosch/Thor because I made these changes and slved my problem.
Re: Traction Control, Window Set, Service Engine Soon, multiple messages Range Rover

A poorly adjusted cruise cable also will not cause delayed shift in only one gear. Further it would have to be WAY out of adjustment to cause high idle due to the design of the bellows and slack.
Re: Traction Control, Window Set, Service Engine Soon, multiple messages Range Rover

I had the problem with high rpm after getting my head gaskets done drove it around the block and straight back to the mechincs fixed it by replacing tps sensor at no cost.
Re: Traction Control, Window Set, Service Engine Soon, multiple messages Range Rover

TPS will cause a high idle after major work has been done on the engine as the adaptive values will have altered to suit the poor running before. However, the OP isn't complaining of a high idle, he's complaining that the auto box isn't changing into top gear. Using only 3rd gear happens when in limp mode when another fault has been detected.

Sent the truck back to the mechanic. We will see what they do. Thanks so much
