I have tried to post pics, but do not know if it worked. Anyway, if this makes sense, I have a 2001 P38. Getting code "too rich". Some good advice was to change the plugs. While doing that, noticed a black object coming out of passenger side of air plenum. Looks like a vacuum nipple, to accept vacuum hose, with a red collar around it. If you are at the front grill, to the left of the plenum (passenger side). Any thoughts or pics appreciated.

I think its a leftover,ie not functional. Maybe for some test equip. or pressure relief if something blows inside intake. Just check when running that air is not being sucked thru there. There is a trick to removing it and its on here somewhere about 1 plus years ago. You can use ether for a vacuum test.since if you spray it at a leak engine rpm will increase. Can be potent so exercise due care if used. One shot in our old diesel tractor B275 International would make it knock like crazy for a few seconds but about the only way we could start it.

Thanks diff. I will test it and see if it is sucking.

Meanwhile, behind the engine, now I find a going nowhere line or hose. Small black line (appr. width of pencil), not rubber, more stiff. Just makes a curve and stops. Looks like a fuel line actually. This is behind the engine, almost against the firewall, headed toward passenger side, then loops and stops--attaches to nothing I can find.

Any thoughts on this one? (I will study the svc. manual tomorrow!)

I think thats a breather from the gear box / transfer box. Quite normal.
