That's the correct fluid for the ZF 5HP24 transmission fitted to '02-'05 L322 models with the BMW M62 engine (4.4l V8 petrol).

Yep, 5 litres will be about right.

Because of the relatively low cost and ease of replacement you might also like to consider replacing the filter at the same time?

You just need the filter itself (LPW000030), its O-ring (TYX000100) and a new sump pan gasket (TYF000110).

Phil,

Should the car be warmed up and cycled through the gears before i drain it? I did not see anything in RAVE about warming it up-

If your in a relatively warm climate, it shouldn't matter much. I'd only warm it up if you were in a cold place.

In fact, you'll probably drain more quicker if you have left it untouched for a while as all fluid will pool at the bottom in the sump. Having it running will have pushed it all about into the nooks and crannies.
