Thinking of converting EFI to Carb on an 88 classic..anyone tried it? Thoughts?

I have been battling the Lucas Jetronic EFI for years. Every few months something leaves me stranded. At 24 years old, it is starting to die a slow, annoying death. I was thinking about ripping out the entire EFI unit and going Carb, specifically using a edelbrock manifold for the old Buick 3.5L V8s and a edelbrock carb,(as opposed to the stock dual carb system.) I am enjoying (in theory) the simplicity and reliability of the conversion. However, in practice this could be a nightmare. I am concerned about fuel mileage decreasing and the complications arising of disconnecting the EFI from the computer system. Has anyone done this conversion? Is it worth doing or should i just do the best i can with repairing the the EFI. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
