Hi - I’m thinking of buying a RRS Audiobiography Sport 3.0 SDV6 2012. I am trying to get some opinions on the car before I make the big decision.

The car belongs to the company I work for and was one of the Directors cars. They can’t find the service history! I have managed to pierce together some of the history. My company brought the car when it was just under 1year old. The service history I have pieced together so far is:-

Service at Stratstone 4/4/2014 at 23,529 miles
Service at Looker Land Rover Battersea 16/2/2015 at 29,370 miles
New Engine Stratstone 7/9/2015 at 33,231 miles (that was a BIG bill!)

I am trying to track down the 2013 service. It has 44,000 miles on it now and looks like it hasn’t been serviced since new engine (10,000 miles ago).

I know about the crankshaft bearing issue which I know is why the engine was replaced.

I just can’t decide to leave it or buy it. My company wants a lot less for it than what We Buy any Car would pay for it. So from the price standpoint, it is attractive.

Any advise would be appreciated.

I don't know anything about the diesel engines in these, is there an expected service due between 33k and 44k that you're looking for? When looking at the service history of mine from Car Fax, it wasn't uncommon for there to be 15-20k mile gaps between any of the services (other than oil changes).

If you have the opportunity to drive it and get a PPI (pre purchase inspection) done before buying, and the price is attractive, seems like a pretty safe bet :)

Thanks Ryan. I think the service intervals are every 16,000 miles or 12 months. So there should have been on in 2016/2017. I’m also trying to get the service from 2013. It was in the franchised dealer network then, so I hope to get that one.

I’m going to take it out on Wednesday for an hour or two. I have spoken to an independent Land Rover specialist and they will do an inspection for me.

I’ve checked the spec on the car and it’s a very nice spec.

If if drives nice and you like it, and the PPI checks out, I wouldn't be very concerned if I were in your shoes. Seems like a pretty safe purchase vs buying a used vehicle from a dealership with shoddy/no records.

Post pics when/if you buy it!

Probably a dumb question but have you tried giving its VIN to the local Jag/LR dealer to see what they have on record? They can see any services done by the entire LR network. Also don't forget that 2012 cars have a service reminder, so if the car isn't actively saying that a service is due then either it's still within a scheduled service period (meaning a service was done) or someone used a tool to reset it :)
