As you all know by now, VelocityAP was kind enough to extend a limited time group buy to the members which ended May 10th 2018.
This thread serves to host all the Q/A regarding the tuning process and results.

Please be as thorough as possible with any information you add to help those who might be stuck in the process. I'll add the first bit about how the process has worked for me so far:

  • I ordered as part of the group buy. My car is a 2016 SVR (5.0L SC). Item was shipped promptly as promised with instructions and packaged really well.
  • In the instructions there was a link to download a piece of software which I downloaded (.exe file) and installed on a Windows 10 (Lenovo T470) with no issues. The software does several downloads and updates when you first load it and attached it to the device. No errors were encountered.
  • I noticed in the software and later in the device that the 5.0L RRS is not part of the list. Stuart responded to my inquiry immediately that I can use the option for the 5.0L Range Rover Fullsize (BOTSCH MED 17.8.31).
  • The instructions call for an external power source for stability but I believe most of us have skipped that step so far. I skipped it too.
  • Once connected to the car and followed the instructions, the only thing a bit confusing was the it asks you for the "key on" or similar message, and that's when you're supposed to actually click the start button once. A few minutes later, after the dash lights went off and on several times and several faults were shown I got a message that indicated I was done. I then disconnected the device and connected back to my PC and saved the file to my PC which by default has a .usr extension. It's a binary file in case you were thinking of opening it `) . Mine was 106KB.
  • I have now emailed the file to Velocity and am awaiting my tune to arrive. However, it's important to note that this morning, my Check Engine light was on. I restarted the car about 6 times with some pause in between and the fault has gone away since. Car is operating normal as of right now.
  • I will continue to document my experience. I also have some videos which I'll have to edit. So far the customer service has been very responsive and the device seems okay and the PC software is stable.

Trez great idea as we are all in this together!

I’ll echo your experiences. I used an old laptop at work running Windows 7 and installed fine. Seems that every time I connect the reader to the computer it gets updated.

Had same issue about the vehicle as the RRS option had only diesels but like you Stuart was very responsive and I did the [4th] RR 503 bhp autobiography V8 option.

I did the ecu download while the vehicle was on accessory mode and it took a few minutes. No tender hooked up. During this time I had a few faults as expected per instructions and then the screen went completely black until the download was done. Then the screen went back to normal.

Interestingly enough at this time the car wouldn’t recognize my smart key. So by the time I walked into my house to get my other key it was working again.

This morning has CEL (but no error message) also on but vehicle drove fine.

Sent tune file off this morning which was same size as trez’s.

My experience has been pretty much identical. I think we have bogged down their tuners with 15 or so tunes pending at the same time but Chris mentioned he might have mine back to me tonight. My CEL was on last night but had cleared by the time I got to work.

Anyone try the diagnostics on the unit they sent? I'm wondering if it makes the Gap IIDTool redundant but I'm guessing it isn't as comprehensive.

Did you by any chance do a fault code scan to find out why the CEL comes on?

No as I don’t have a scanner (probably should get one though) and I expect it to go away on its own

Yup CEL gone this morning. This was the fourth time I started it since flashing the ECU.

I have a 2015 HSE (3.0 V6SC)

Received my programmer this AM.

Followed the update instructions and downloaded the files from my car to programming unit
- No problems with online update of programming tool
- Used full size RR as vehicle type as there were no options for V6 (or V8) under the RRS submenu
- Car did weird things as expected but started up just fine with CEL on (also as expected)

Uploaded file to computer and sent off to VAP
- Received autoresponse stating that due to the recent GB turnaround for MOD files would be longer than typical 24-48hr - cool

Standing by for MOD file...

FWIW - I have started my car a total of approximately 9 times now and driven 75 miles and CEL is still on - as there was ambiguity in when it turns off ultimately I am not worried at this time but hope it goes away soon!

For those of you anxious to receive your tune, it's coming! Just received mine tonight around 9pm (props to Chris for pumping these out on a Friday evening). The install went smoothly, no problems whatsoever and it only took ~15 minutes between downloading the file on my computer and finishing installation in the car.

Full review coming tomorrow when I have some more seat time, was only able to get about 20 minutes of driving tonight (mostly in traffic). Burbles exist, car feels a lot smoother (downshifting, throttle response etc.). Can't comment too much on power before I really push it. Like I said, will post a more in-depth review later but wanted to give a quick update for those of you eager to get this installed.

Adding on, turnaround time was around 3.5 days, which is good considering the amount of people buying tunes right now. I can definitely see them meeting their 24-48 hour estimate if you purchase in the "offseason". Communication between myself and Velocity during the process so far has been pretty quick over email so I had no issues. I've never tuned a car before and this process has been a lot smoother than I imagined. I've seen friends struggle with all kinds of random piggybacks and tunes so I actually had low expectations. Kudos to Velocity for ease of use.

Thank you for starting this thread. It is really interesting. I look forward to hearing everyone's experiences. I would personally be freaking out about the CEL. I still have flashbacks from my L322.

Got my tune back last night as well and it's in the car but. .. I've had a glass of wine so I think I'll just take her out tomorrow. Service from VAP has been excellent.

Oh and by the way if you have an L320 then apparently you can't have the "crackle and pop" mod because we have the Denso ECU instead of the new Bosch. Oh well, probably would have pissed my wife off anyway. She's been through years of my childish need to modify exhaust noise.

Hi all,

Received my programmer the other day and did my initial read this morning. Have to admit I am a bit apprehensive about using it, but a big thanks to Trez63 making the process easier. I would probably have freaked out a little bit when everything went dark in the vehicle during the read:)
Anyway.. As I have a CTEK voltage supply I hooked that up just to be on the safe side, keeping the voltage high and stable. Did my read without any problems following the write-ups in this thread.
Car started up with the CEL, but since I have an IIDTool I scanned the vehicle before and after to see what faults were triggered.

Here are the faults triggered on mine:
ABS Brake module
U0001-87 (68 ) High speed CAN communication bus - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message

IPC Instrument pack
U0001-87 (2C) High speed CAN communication bus - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message

TCM Transmission
U0401-87 (AC) Invalid data received from engine control module/powertrain control module - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message

They are all communication faults, and when cleared have not come back(so far)

Thanks again for the help.

Anyone with some seat time with the new tune? I haven't received mine yet so anxious to hear what others have been getting.
Yup. Have had mine for a while.

Definitely makes this quick SUV flat or Fast.

I had them do 3 tunes for me. One just the one. One for when I add the pulley and one for when I do the full exhaust as well.

You won’t be sorry.

Did you have to specify what you wanted or did they advise you?
I am just doing the tune, haven't bought the pulley and already have the Quicksilver exhaust. I'm looking for the extra power, better throttle response and the Stop/start deactivation. Other than that I'm not sure what to ask for?
